Hello Hivers!! Its been a while since my last full blog. Got a lot of saved drafts but got a lot of reasons not to finish them.lol!
So here I am,blogging again. Of course I have a lot to talk but I choose this topic I believe history should be written because it might be forgotten.
Meet Mama Pig Uno!! Her name was derived from our local dialect which means first or number one. Obviously she was our first gilt. We bought her for 16,000.00 Pesos noas young gilt at the age of 6 months old last May 17, 2022 from Mrs. Francisco (a retired High School teacher).
She got her First AI ( Artificial Insemination) on her 8 months old last Aug 9, 2022
She gave birth to 8 piglet alive plus 6 piglets dead during pregnancy after a week another 2 piglets died and only 6 were left until weaning.
We sold the 6 piglets to our relatives ( 2 heads to cousin of my husband, another 2 heads to my husband's brother and the last 2 heads were sold to my brother in law).
Sadly, after her Artificial Insemination (AI) for her supposed to be 2nd parity, she had an Urinary Tract Infection (UTI). The technician gave her 2 doses of antibiotic but it did not work. On her second AI, the infection still exists and she had the phobia in terms of injection.
That time we decided to sell her out,it hurts to see her go but we had to.
This was our last selfie last March 9, 2023. I posted it on my story. Uno was my first love. She had the beautiful eyes ever. My 1st heartache in the hog farming was caused by her.
I sold her for about 20,000.00 pesos. She weighed about 201 kilograms alive and the market price at that time was 100.00 pesos per live weight. Not bad, we gain 4,000.00 from the gilt cost plus the 6 piglets that was sold.
We bought this sowlit last Dec 16, 2022. The money we used to buy her was from Uno's piglets. We asked the advance payment for the 2 piglets from my husband's brother. She was only 62 days old when we acquire her. Her date of Birth is Oct 15, 2022. She is suppose to be our future 3rd sow. Yes, we already have 2nd sow and we call her "Mama Pig Dos". Her story will be on the 2nd part of my blog.
I chose this content for me to have the record. Our journey in the livestock farming ( hog farming) is challenging. I want to reminisce the time we started plan & set goals. I want to feel the first feeling of excitement as we started having them. As of now we on our 2nd year in this field and it is getting more challenging as our hog family gets bigger.
Our goal is too far yet we are getting farther from where we started. May you enjoy and get motivated in this blog. Hope you'll get updated until the next part.
It is really nice to be back!!
It's me,
