**Who loves failing? ** Sounds negative? I will tell you in this blog how I love to fail!
We started raising chickens seriously last November 2022 (last year) with the intention to put it into a business.
We started with my father's grower chickens for about 14 heads. They were 2 months old and we got his 4 Mama Hens and 1 rooster and the rest was history.
I thought raising chickens is as easy as counting 1,2,3 and singing ABC.lol! But as time passes those 14 growers grown up and we retained all females to make it into hens and we sold males or roosters.Until we reached the 19 heads of laying hens as of the moment.
Achieving the number of those hens was just smooth but later on when they all lay eggs, we started to struggle.
I can't count and remember how many chicks I buried. We are just doing what we started but I think the weather for the 2nd quarter has something to say with the chicks!
We also think that our mother hens git sick because of the bad weather so the eggs they produce were not that healthy too.
For the breeders, the most failing part for me is the sharing of nests. They are 19 hens and some of them don't know their nests. The tendency of sharing is breaking the eggs. They will keep on stepping the eggs everytime they are competing have a place in the nests.Eggs will surely be wasted.
We came up to have an incubator to lesses the wasted eggs and to prolong the laying of eggs of the hens. We harvests or collect the eggs every week and load them in the incubator. The sad part was, we wasted a hundred (100) eggs because it did not work. We cooked those eggs and the positive side was, we enjoyed the boiled eggs.
The problem occured during the incubation. The stability of temperature and humidity are the factors, same with the power supply and the environment where our incubator was placed. I consider the egg's fertility due to unhealthy hens might be a factor too.
To sum it up, I knew there are factors that might affect the health of our chicks, there will always be a good practice we need to discover for the nesting hens and of course the mastery in operating the incubator.
Those were the failures we encountered so far and for sure there will be more to come. We are babe in this business industry and I enjoy failing up to this point. And here's why:
*In failure I can learn - I need to discover do the experimental procedure in order to correct the the mistake. This is my chance to gain knowledge and confidence.
*In failure I can adjust - I need to stretch my limited knowledge and character. The problem cannot adjust with me but I am the one who ought to adjust with it.
*In failure I can apply the learnings and adjustment - the application is the most important part. Then I can pass on everything to the younger generation.
Don't be afraid of failures, embrace and enjoy it. Every experience is worth in the end. Just don't give up. Somehow you will figure it out as long as you believe you can.
I will keep on blogging more about farming and I hope you will learn and enjoy as we go through every step we make. This is our current situation in the chicken farming and we never give up, up to this point because these things made me excited and happy everyday.
Here is the verse to ponder today :
“Love your enemies! Do good to them. Lend to them without expecting to be repaid. Then your reward from heaven will be very great, and you will truly be acting as children of the Most High, for he is kind to those who are unthankful and wicked.
