Chinese New Year is ending yet has not ended! My son's primary school asked him to dress up yesterday for some celebration in school!
So the attire set was actually either Chinese New Year attire or dress anything in red or dress in a presentable manner. My son actually likes his CNY clothes and it was his own request to me to get him a set even before CNY came.
Hence I let him dressed in that to go to school. Before going to school and as he was changing, he told me, "Mummy, I am so happy I can wear this CNY clothes to school and need not wear school uniform today!"
I could feel his excitement too.
The school asked us to let the children have a heavier breakfast as their recess time will be pushed back a little. It is my firstborn's first CNY celebration in school so I could only anticipate photos from his class teacher.
Really, she did not disappoint. She took some of these photos and sent them to our group chat. The good and kind teacher even gave them angpao (red packets) to all her students.
As you can see from the photos, the school employed people to be the "Choi San ye" (God of prosperity) , some Lion dance troops and also a Mickey Mouse?! This I cannot relate why, sorry.
My son managed to stand in front of the photo sometimes and I saw him trying to be seen at the last row when he was at the back too. The students were asked to queue at the corridor to watch the performances such as the lion dance. There was also calligraphy competition for the students in the upper primary.
After recess, the students of my son's class were asked to return and to copy notes from the whiteboard. My son sitting at the last row could not see the words and the teacher allowed him to squeeze a seat with his classmate sitting first row.
Such good memories to be in school and to experience CNY this way. I appreciate the school and teacher's effort. They expose the students to some of the CNY customs and culture.
