The Splinterlands season is already halfway through and my Glint earnings are already at 119063. My initial plan was to open Ultimate Chests to try my luck with a jackpot and also get more energy to battle, but with my previous experience opening Ultimate Chests I realized that it is not worth it because the chances of a jackpot are low and the amount of energy gained is also low and since my focus is on increasing the levels of my Soulbounds cards I decided to open Epic Draws.
Why did I choose Epic Draws?
The reason I chose this Draw and not the others is because there are 2 epic cards that I am interested in and they are Halfling Refugee and Olivia of the Brook. I noticed that both cards are used a lot by the strongest players on the leaderboard and when I looked at their stats and abilities, I was sure that they are great cards to have in battles so instead of risking opening chests that give me cards of random rarities I decided to choose the rarity draws because that way I will have a better chance of getting the cards I want.
My new strategy will be to open 25 Epic Draws in every season until I manage to max out the level of these 2 cards, I will also get a good amount of the other epic cards so I will probably max them out as well, but I am not very interested in the others, although Night Reaper and Arachne Weaver are also great cards.
My current amount of Glint is 305815 and I will spend 187500 to open 25 Epic Draws. Since my earnings in Glint are higher than 187500 per season, I will probably open Ultimate Chests or Major Chests as well to increase my chances of getting more Halfling Refugee and Olivia of the Brook cards, so I can get them to maximum level faster.
There are a total of 7 Soulbound epic cards from the Rebellion edition, which means that for each Draw I have a 28.57% chance of getting one of the cards I want.
I think instead of opening Epic Draws I should have bet on the lottery because if I got 4 Halfling Refugee, 7 Olivia of the Brook and 3 Gold Foil cards, 2 of which are Night Reaper and Arachne Weaver, then I will already have them at level 2.
I wonder if with this luck I wouldn't have hit a jackpot in the Ultimate Chests, I think I will try to open some later.
Why do I want Halfling Refugee and Olivia of the Brook?
The answer to this can be found in the cards' Stats and Abilities. Let's start with the Halfling Refugee.
The Halfling Refugee costs only 1 mana and as you can see, its attack, speed and health are quite high for such a low mana cost. In addition, it has the ability Heal which will heal it, so in low mana battles it will be an excellent choice for a tank. Its only drawback is the ability Weary which gives it a 10% chance [increasing 10% each round] of suffering exhaustion and not performing any attacks/movements in the round.
Olivia of the Brook has a higher mana cost but she is a card that has 2 types of attack and great abilities, such as the ability Opportunity that makes her attack from any position and will target the enemy monster with the lowest health, she has the ability Mimic that makes her gain one of the abilities of the enemy monsters from the second round onwards and also has a 25% chance of gaining an ability from the monster she attacked and lastly she has the ability Reflection Shield that makes her immune to the abilities Blast, Magic Reflect, Return Fire and Thorns.
In short, both are very powerful cards that will help you a lot in battle.
