Hello and happy Friday!
I can never decide if I like or hate this character. Either way, he is pretty cool looking.
This is based on the Loomis method of face drawing. I had to redraw these in order to get them to show up on camera, these base shapes are just there to get the proportions right and should always be drawn so light that they are barely visible, (see why I had to redraw?) trust me, it'll make cleaning up you drawing way easier, especially for this style of drawing.
In a future post, I will fully and nicely explain this hybrid Loomis method, with examples and all the steps. Today, however, is Fanart Friday, so let's just keep things low effort. I'm exhausted and depleted anyways.
This is where the hybrid part comes in, because I like to use some facial planes too. Once again, that a complete post all by itself.
It is easiest to focus on drawing the largest shapes and details when starting the drawing. Basic shapes really help you figure out where stuff needs to go.
Few more shapes and refining things somewhat, just to get the shapes right.
After the previous few steps I like to draw over my reference, then, lightly erase the pencil lines until they are almost completely invisible (I forgot to take photos of a few steps because I spaced out drawing and listening to music.) Either way, draw out the main shapes, using more pressure, then erase again so these are quite light but still visible, then darken main lines and shapes (just their outlines) this will leave you with a very clean looking drawing. Now grab a pen!
Alternating between pencil, to mark out the shapes and shades I drew on the reference, I will try to replicate what I see and then either colour it full black or use some version of hatching (yes, I'm still learning and definitely winging it, this isn't a tutorial!)
It is easiest for me to work from the face downwards, because I'll only keep going if I like the face.
After killing a bunch of pens....it is done! I like learning how to draw portraits, so if anyone has any character requests.... Let me know!
That's all for today.
Till next time, hope everyone has an epic weekend.
