Virtual identity is being portrayed in our contemporary world in different personna representation, to the external is difficult to trust people's identity on the digital space because it can be used to manipulate and deceive some certain persons. For a person like me who is an introvert I turned to explore the digital space not for widespread attention or Fame but a means to relate and communicate with people who have similar interest and values. I am quite picky of my online representations in various spaces on the internet because my kind of person engages in characters that are not vile or violent in ways that can downplay my emotional presence on the space.
The reason why I mentioned that my persona representation on the digital space is quite different is the fact that I tend to relate more openly via social media than in real life. I have gotten certain compliments from Friends who says that I am more open to speaking my mind by chatting or communicating through mediums such as WhatsApp, Facebook messengers, and so on than we discuss in physical space. The physical distance encountered during social or online interactions can bring about this inhibition which can make a person give a different or subtle representation of themselves online as against face-to-face.
In a relation with the daily activities that goes on in our social media space, we can conclude that relating with content on the media is quite adjustable considering our perceived audience. This is one thing that is very versatile in the digital space people can change their persona to suit their audience. For instance, I tend To be candid with my opinion whenever I am chatting or discussing with my friends or families but this is always different whenever I am communicating with a stranger online, I come out as professional and more polished in my discussions. This is very natural in the sense that the context in which we are communicating is based on private and public forums hence the sanctity of these separate bodies should be established.
One thing I like about the social media space and the visual identity representation of people online is the fact that you tend to show what you want the public to see, rather than to know. This is why in our contemporary world it is said that you are at risk can be living whatever you see on social media. Many lives have been viewed because people believe that there is a shortcut to making money at a very young age. In my country Nigeria people have fallen for this celebrity is who are leaving the fake life by renting of expensive car to show off as their own borrowing of expensive and luxurious houses to pose and claim to be theirs buying or fake designer bags and stuffs just to pressure the vulnerable. Most of these people only live a life that are suitable for just the social media why they are wearing away in real life.
In conclusion, all I am trying to say is that a person's physical identity representation is always different from the digital representations on the virtual space. What we see on the internet may or may not be what is happening in the physical aspects of that person's life.
