The first sight at the entrance gave me an impression of what I was about to meet inside. It's not a sunny day so the weather is cool enough for the kids. A wonderful time I percieved I was going to have over there. Today is the day that was appointed for my class to go on an excursion. When the bus got to the gate and I saw the drawing on the walls, I was eager to see what the fence was built around. The gate eas opened and the bus driver drove in.
It was difficult for us to locate the place on google map, the map direction is not correct so we have to make calls until we got to the place. I would have contributed but didn't want to leave the pupils alone while doing otger things.
After locating the place, we got to the gate. The artisic designs on the walls painted increase my eagerness as I was ready to get in quickly and see what the fence was sorrounding. I got a nice shot from my phone camera. My friend was good at handling cameras so he snapped a better shot than me.
We are at the Center of Memories, a place for records of heroes who did earned reputations in their time. This is Enugu state, Eastern part of Nigeria. A big state with a lot of attractive locations. You might want to visit one day too.
Lets talk about Sir Fredrick Akanu Ibiam briefly. Sir Fredrick Akanu is one of the reputable man who was born in the Eastern part of Nigeria. An Ebonyi State, NG, man who studies medicine in the Uk. As a doctor in 1935, he chose to serve under Church of Scotland missionary in Nigeria. He set up a dispensary and expanded it to a hospital in Abriba. He was transferred to Akwa Ibom State where he promited maternity work and Children welfarism. You can read more about him if you want to. He also did a lot for Biafran during the 1967 war.
There are others who did well for Eastern Nigeria too. People like Chinua Achebe, James Iroha, Margaret Expo and others. Things are things that happened in the past but without a place like Center of Memories, there is no way that the record will be seen by the little ones who don't have access to phones. I took a few more pictures, see them below
