Weak Magic
"Magic attacks hit Armor before reducing Health.
Protect, Repair, Rust are useful in this ruleset. Beware the opponent could choose only Melee and Ranged monsters, so keep a tank with Shield." - Splintercards
Ruleset
My Strategy
- Hit hard, like really hard, more than once where possible.
- Prepare for a potential Anti Melee or Anti Ranged damage setup and hit hard.
- I'll achieve this by buffing damage for melee and ensuring there is Armour on my line up.
Underboss Fabino
I like this summoner as it gives me the option to do massive melee damage or the ability to quickly take out a backline card such as a healer or a Tank. In my opinion this is my favourite of the new summoners I have purchased so far.
- Definitely one I aim to purchase more BCX of in the future - once my land plots are are little more complete.
Venari Marksrat
By using this card, I am hoping to increase my main tank / attacker's values to hit hard and fast. Ideally, I hope to punch through the opposing lineup using the Martyr ability. Combbining this with the Underboss summoner, I think my hard and fast Double Strike strategy is really starting to develop.
Grund
I love Grund! Fast enough, Double Strike and the potential do massive damage. Combined with the Underboss, this card is monstrous. Capable of doing some nasty damage (up to 6) if things work out correctly, not many cards can soak that damage up. My opponent does have a tendency to use Thaddeus Brood and Cursed Windeku together, so I will need to resolve the issue of Thorns which tends to be a real weakness for Grund, alongiside magic in general.
Queen Mycelia
With the Thorns and the Weak Magic ruleset in mind, I want to ensure Grund and my other cards are as protected as possible so Queen Mycelia will use the Protect ability to increase Armour by +2. For 4 mana, this is a great card and whilst it is even better in Silver with the addition of Amplify, it will serve a purpose by ensuring Grund is supported and throwing an additional 1 magic damage each round.
Fungus Fiend
This card is here mainly to ensure that Queen Mycelia takes as little damage as possible. This will ensure the Opportunity attacks target the Fiend as opposed to the Queen. Coming in as a 0 cost card, this card is a no brainer to utilise. I will be buffing this card to increase it's attackinng stat through the Underboss' abilities, but I hope it does not come to that stage of the battle.
Djinn Biljka
For that little bit of extra damage, Djinn Biljka is here to support from the back. Offering just a single point of damage for 3 mana, it's Camouflage ability should it keep it alive for as long as possible.
Opposing Lineup
Thaddeus Brood
As predicted, my opponent selected Thaddeus Brood which will mean a likely Cursed Windeku to follow up. I was fairly aware of their preference based on their last four summoners being Death. In every use of a Death summoner, they had always used Cursed Windeku.
Cursed Windeku
With this card in mind, I feel that I am set up to break it down as quickly as possible. Of course, Thorns is quite tricky to play against with Melee but I think the overwhelming force of Grund should make this a breeze. A good selection from the opponent but perhaps a little predictable?
Venari Bonesmith
By placing this card here, the opponent is hoping the Life Leech ability will make this card a much tankier support. A good card for 4 mana but gets infinitely better at Silver with the Poison ability. A good choice normally but perhaps increasing armour for their lineup was the safer choice in order to boost all monster's chances of survival?
Life Sapper
Similar to the Venari Bonesmith really, for the mana this is a great card but I am just not sure this is the correct ruleset to be using it. With the new Rebellion cards available I'd be looking toward a Chaos Animator with the Amplify ability. This would be cheap and also offer great protection against Melee by buffing the Thorns damage to 3.
Silent Sha-vi
This is always a strong choice. Fast and with good damage, it is an excellent Death card and one I'd likely have played too.
Uraeus
The opponent has used a double sneak strategy to try and break down my backline. A good strategy here but I think my Queen Mycelia should have enough to resist the issues with a Fungus Fiend to soak up the damage.
Tactics
For me there is only one option here with Grund. By adding extra melee damage to Grund, I am massively increasing the damage he deals to an opponent. If the opponent had used any healers or Amplify support abilities, I may have switched to the poison tactic. But for today, Melee +2 sounds perfect as it works out as +4 with Double Strike.
The Battle
Round 1 & 2
Rounds 3-5
Post Battle Thoughts
- Grund and Underboss Fabino are a very potent combination even against the Thorns of Cursed Windeku.
- The use of Fungus Fiend was actually pretty clutch as it stopped too much damage being forced through my backline.
- I am pretty happy overall with the effectiveness of my strategy but I think I need to upgrade the BCX on my summoner next to unlock the rest of my deck's potential.
