I was in my teens back then and I was very much interested in making money so I could get a savings account for myself. Things were not easy for my dad then so he could really use an extra hand and that was why I had to use my hair making skills to generate some extra income. I was so happy about it because I was making just enough to keep me going. It got to a point when there was an emergency need and a friend of mine told me of something which I could put in my money and get times 2 of it that same day.
It sounded too good to be true and I also told myself that I wanted an income that I worked for so I knew I wasn’t interested even though at that point I needed the extra money. Well, my friend let me be but then she asked me to borrow her some money and that she will pay back if the project works out well. I was not interested in giving it to her because it would mean I was the one indirectly doing it but then, I didn’t want her to feel that I’m a bad friend because she knew I had that money with me.
After thinking so much about it, I finally let her have the money and she got started. She was told that she would get paid after 2hours. Immediately it was two hours, she contacted the number that has been messaging her and she was told that for her to claim the money, she had to deposit 25% of her previous deposit. At this point I already knew my money was gone. My friend knew too and she kept disturbing the person and before we knew what was happening, the WhatsApp number she was contacting gone. I was so pained to the bones.
I was hurt because I knew I would have been able to stop my friend if I didn’t give her the money she asked for. This experience with a cyber fraudster taught me a lot of things and over time it has helped me become wiser. The most prominent lesson I learned from that experience was that we shouldn’t try to please everyone. I knew from the start that the whole project was just a charade but I wasn’t assuring enough to convince my friend because for some weird reasons I thought okay maybe I might be wrong.
And I was scared of missing out of the goodies that would come with participating in it. Since I didn’t want to make my friend feel bad, I had to give in to her request and that was where I made a wrong move. A little stubbornness would have gone a long way for both of us. And another lesson I learned was that if it is too good to be true, then it might not be true after all. We’ve heard this a lot of times and you know, this thought almost stopped me from being a part of the hive blockchain, lol.
It’s just how some people are working tirelessly on how to take away what someone has been working for almost all their life. It hurts when you are reaped of your hard earned money. I wonder if these fraudsters ever put themselves in the shoes of those they defraud, I doubt if they do and even if they do I’m sure they’ve already made up their mind to just care about themselves and the brief pleasure they will enjoy.
