Family is the basic unit of every society and its effect is always felt despite how small or large it is. There is no one who wasn’t born into a family and this is to let us know how important it is. I will like to compare a family to a cell, even as the cell is the basic unit of life, so is the family a basic unit of the society. Most times, we are so happy and grateful for the families we find ourselves being a part of, while other times, we are tempted to envy other’s families because of how united and connected they are.
For me, I was fortunate to come from a not-so-large family. I have my dad, mum and my two siblings and that’s it. Unfortunately, I only got to live with just my dad and my siblings but, that didn’t stop my family from blossoming. There were some down times, especially the time when my mum left but trust me, the ups were more and that mostly helped us cope even through those tough times. My family is a family that people admire a lot and most times, for those who weren’t so close to us, they find it hard to even accept that we were living without our mum.
We literally shared almost everything in common. My dad always made sure to be there for us despite the fact that he was also out there looking for ways that we have a roof over our heads, food to eat, clothes to put on and also give us basic education. We had little even as a small family but it seemed like we had so much and that was because we all know what was going on and we all tried to adjust.
If money wasn’t a problem, I would have still preferred a small family and that is because, I have always enjoyed having non-families come around because all my life, I was very fortunate to live with different families and hardly did they make me feel not wanted with them and I do always look forward to doing the same to others too. Having just two biological siblings is enough, as for the rest, I wish to build them through genuine connections with other people.
I personally believe that someone I call my family is not only someone that was birthed by same parents. As long as we share some things in common and you are willing to be like a family to me and me to you, it is totally fine with me. If having a larger family doesn’t only means having more biological siblings is, then I do wish to have more people I can call family, especially if money wasn’t a problem.
Based on what I have said, you will know that I would definitely love to raise a larger family (few biological and more from outside). I have been privileged to enjoy the love from a family I wasn’t related to in any way and I know how beautiful it is and I’m not going to deny others of that if I get the opportunity to give it to them.
Today, besides my dad, mum and my two siblings and also relatives, I have even more people I recognize as family and they also see me as family too. The relationship wasn’t forced in any way, it was built and today, we call each other families and little by little, I believe I’m already building the larger family that I pray for and hopefully when I get married, I can also have a biological family of my own and the circle will keep growing bigger.
Thank you for reading through. ❤️
