The caress of D10S
Last Sunday while watching the match between Napoli and Juventus where the team from southern Italy beat Turin in great fashion, the ESPN network commentator, Vito de Palma, alluded to Maradona's impossible goal and said that curiously it is not so remembered that it would even seem to break the laws of physics.
Maradona has been a character who has always aroused mixed feelings in me, extraordinary as a player, but decidedly not one of my favorite people in terms of his behavior outside the soccer fields.
It is something that has tormented me because my vision differs noticeably from that of many who adore him to the point of paroxysm, I questioned myself repeatedly if I was wrong, I finally reached a kind of definitive truce with myself, he was a soccer player and as This is how I should treat him; In that sense I surrendered to his exquisite game.
Since I remembered several famous goals by "Diego" but not this one, I was looking for it and of course, I found it, it was not like Vito said that it is a little remembered goal, it is everywhere, wherever you look for it you will find it, diagrams, videos, comments. He alone has suffered the effects of time and remained in the trunk of some people's memories.
The goal in question, according to Maradona himself, ended up definitively rendering the Napoli tifosi to the extraordinary ten, if something more was needed for him to go to the category of the absolute idol, it was that goal he scored against the powerful Juventus of those days with Michelle Platini as the superlative driver, the year 1985 was passing and the match was 0-0 despite Maradona's enormous plays.
In the minute 72nd, the judge awarded an indirect free kick inside the Juventus area, about 4 meters past the demarcation line of the large area. If we consider that this line is 16.5 meters from the fence, there were about 12 meters between the ball and the goal. Furthermore, Maradona himself and other players from that time mentioned in later reports that they spent a long minute arguing with the referee because the barrier that Juventus set up was 5 meters from the position of the ball, something illegal, but it was the powerful Juve and Napoli was still nothing.
Pecci gives the ball to Diego, but not before arguing with him that it is impossible to score the goal from that position, but Maradona convinces him and touches it to him, in a way that only he could, lifts the shot with a caress and goes in. on the rival fence almost in the left corner. Total delirium, Napoli wins that match 1-0 although it was not enough to obtain the Scudetto, finishing 3rd. behind Juventus itself and Roma, it was the preparation for the following year where the southern team obtained the title for the first time thanks to a superlative Maradona.
That goal that defies the laws of physics due to the proximity of the rival goal and the goal itself, due to the weight of the ball in those years, due to the importance of the moment was considered one of the most extraordinary of the great player.
So much so that Juventus itself, upon learning of the player's death, posted precisely this goal on its social networks, as a posthumous tribute to a great man who had left this world, but whose extraordinary game and exquisite punch remain forever in the mind. and in the hearts of everyone, even his staunch rivals.
Maradona has many famous goals, one in particular invalid, which had to be annulled, scored against the English in the quarterfinals of the 1986 World Cup, which they called "The Hand of D10S", this one, perfectly valid and beyond all logic, can be remembered as "the caress of D10S".
