Hello friends, today in this post I want to take you with me and tell you about an excursion I made a few weeks ago to a small village in the Carnic Pre-Alps. We are in the province of Pordenone and are about 500 metres above sea level. This beautiful village has just 180 inhabitants and is located in the Friuli Venezia Giulia region. From my point of view, it is a veritable open-air museum. It is very characteristic for the fact that it is surrounded by woods that embrace these small stone houses, where legends and traditions live on inside.
I had already been to this Borgo in the past and probably shared my experience in a post, but this time I went there at Christmas time because it had been recommended by a friend of mine. The thing that struck me most was that the Borgo becomes even more beautiful and atmospheric during this period. The Borgo's inhabitants have gone to great lengths to create truly enchanting Christmas decorations. The decorations and cribs along the streets of the Borgo are truly amazing and make the atmosphere even more magical.
There are traditional cribs and others created with unusual materials, there are illuminated decorations and traditional decorations, everything contributes to creating a unique and enchanting atmosphere. I had the feeling of being transported to another era, a time when traditions and values were still strongly rooted in people's lives. I had a wonderful day and was able to appreciate the beauty of this small village even more. I recommend everyone to visit it during the Christmas period, because you will certainly not be disappointed.
I arrived in the late afternoon in this small village in the Carnic Pre-Alps and took the opportunity to do a little tour of the village. I was able to admire the old stone houses, the narrow, winding streets and the charming atmosphere of the place. After the tour, I decided to visit a small museum that they set up a few years ago. The museum is called 'Museo del Formaggio' (Cheese Museum) and inside they have reconstructed what the cheese factories were like in this place and how cheese was once made. It was a really interesting experience, I was able to see how the villagers lived and worked in the past. I saw how cheese was made, from milking the cows to processing the milk and ripening the cheese. I was able to touch the tools and equipment used in the past and appreciate the tradition of this place even more.
The museum was a surprise for me, I did not expect it to be so interesting, I was able to learn about the history of the Borgo's inhabitants and their way of life. I was able to appreciate their tradition and culture and I understood why this Borgo is so special. I recommend everyone to visit the Cheese Museum, you will certainly be fascinated as I was.
Fortunately, I visited this Borgo during the week, so there were fewer people than at the weekend. If you go at the weekend, in fact, it is really chaotic and you can't even find a parking space. However, this Borgo is practically one of the most beautiful in Friuli Venezia Giulia. Its strength is still the effect of these stone-cut houses and wooden balconies dating back to 1500. This Borgo has a long history behind it, and that is what makes it so special. The houses are built with natural materials and the Borgo's inhabitants have preserved the original architecture.
The wooden balconies are a true work of art; they have been skilfully crafted and have stood the test of time. As I walked through the narrow streets of the Borgo, I was able to admire the decorations and details of the buildings, each with its own unique and characteristic style. I could appreciate the beauty of the stone roofs and dark wooden windows. I had the feeling of being transported back in time, to a time when life was simpler and people had a strong connection with nature and their traditions.
Overall, this Borgo is a lovely place full of charm and I recommend everyone to visit and take the time to explore it. Although it can be chaotic at weekends, it is worth it to be able to admire the beauty of the stone houses and wooden balconies.
In the last photos I took, I captured the atmosphere of the village at a particular moment, namely when the sun had already gone down for quite some time. I found that at this moment, the Borgo becomes even more beautiful, because it is totally illuminated only by Christmas decorations. In my opinion, this makes the village even more pleasant and pretty.
The soft, warm light of the Christmas decorations creates a magical and cosy atmosphere, making one feel as if one were in a fairytale village. I took some really atmospheric photos, with the houses lit up by the coloured lights and the illuminated nativity scenes silhouetted against the dark sky. I captured the effect of the light reflecting off the stone of the houses and the cobbled streets. I was able to appreciate even more the beauty of the decorations and the nativity scenes and I was able to capture the unique atmosphere of the Borgo at this particular time.
Overall, I found that the borgo is even more beautiful than I thought, and the night visit is an experience not to be missed. I recommend to everyone to visit the Borgo during the Christmas period and walk through the streets lit up by the decorations, to appreciate the beauty of the Borgo in a different perspective.
I hope you enjoyed this simple post of mine and I hope you enjoyed these photos and my story. It has been a pleasure to share this experience with you and I hope I have conveyed some of the magic of the Borgo. I know there is still so much to discover and so many stories to tell, and I look forward to doing so in a future post.
