Greetings everyone, I am happy to introduce to you an anime that I watched recently that has some thrilling concepts in it.
I saw this anime in our WhatsApp group. I was thrilled when I saw this anime and checked the genre, because I've not seen any anime talk about racing; the original anime talked about football, basketball, cycling, and even swimming, but one indeed introduced a new concept I've never thought of, which is racing.
Overtake! (Japanese: オーバーテイク!, Hepburn: Ōbāteiku!) is an original Japanese anime television series about the F4 Japanese Championship produced by Kadokawa Corporation and animated by Troyca. It is directed by Ei Aoki and written by Ayumi Sekine, and aired form October to December 2023. Source
You know, as we have categories in football, so we have categories in the world of racing. F1, F2, F3, and F4. F4 is like an entry-level category for car racing. That category is where amatures enter the racing profession, all of which is vividly introduced in this anime.
The anime starts with a photographer named Kouya Madoka, who, for certain reasons, was greatly depressed and didn't have any motivation to move forward, suddenly finds and takes an interest in a driver named Haruka Asahina (who works for Komaki Motors) while covering a racing competition. As a result of what he saw, he felt an excitement rising in him that was never felt before and decided to follow the driver's dreams.
As a result of this event, he decided to join the racing company. As someone who doesn't know anything in the world of racing, he initially faced some problems in the process, but as the plot went on, he got a hang of it. As a low-end company, they faced some trials and tribulations, as the story goes.
I'm always a bit skeptical about sports anime when they start adding fantasy elements to the game. That's the part I dislike about some sports anime. However, there are some anime that have some interesting fantasy to sports which are not far from reality (for example, anime like blue lock), On the other hand, there are some anime that have no extra touch in the world of sports, making everything realistic and very relatable. This anime falls in the third category, offering a storyline that feels authentic and relatable to the world of sports. It feels so interesting to watch a sports anime that focuses on speed, skill, strategy, and emotions without relying on exaggerated and unrealistic plots.
The storyline is indeed informative. In the beginning, the writer really talked about the whole concept of F4, which I've never heard of. The one I've heard of is F1, which is formula 1. So this gives a concept that is indeed informative. Moreover, the writer was able to introduce some techniques used in real-world racing, like slipstream and others. This is something I really enjoy.
In world of racing, where we have to reach the finish line, there'll be rivalry, this rivaly is introduced in this anime, where we see the rivaly between two main racing companies and three main drivers pushing for first position. The whole plot is filled with emotions as they all desire to reach the finish line, be the first which is intriintriguing.
This anime, among what I cherished most has no fan service. The anime priortised quality over fan service, which is indeed admirable.
Taking about the graphics, Overtake has a nice CGI animation, showing the designs of each car with nice textures and art. I also liked how they portrayed the action. You know, when you're watching some anime and you know what the characters are thinking,. It gives a very thrilling feeling about what is to come.
Overall, I love how they ended the anime, giving me a sense of satisfaction about the whole storyline. I give it a 9/10 rating.
That comes to the end of my post. I hope you enjoyed it. See you next time.
