I only started teaching Jansen when he was about 5.5 years old. Before that, we were busy teaching him to eat (which he started eating at 3yo) plus he still had often post surgery complications. Also, a lot of playing kinetic sand and playdough for his sensory development. Plus other therapies we were still going. Now that he is 8 years old, we are glad that we started this learning journey slow and steady. He is slower than peers his age but we guess it is okay.
Blogging this because I want to delete them from my phone, storing them at Hive blockchain as well as cloud.
Learning ABC
I simply used traditional ways using books but he couldn't grip well to write, so we started by recognising all the alphabets, big letter and small letter. I used all sorts of ways. Flash cards. Books. And when he could recognise better we did matching like this.
Matching Big and Small
He loves colours since baby so I thought of incorporating colours into all his learning session.
Spelling Box
He especially love a spelling his grandma bought for him. A little too advanced as he was still learning ABC. But it helped him to match the letters I spelled out for him, searching them.
After he successfully recognised all alphabets big and small, I started to teach him phonics using books plus material I drew on my own, learning from a mother from Instagram. I didn't get to capture letter sound for 'a' and 'e', but below was when he learned letter sound 'i'. He made the sound while drawing 'i' at the appropriate paper.
Again, I tried to incorporate colours into his learning journey. He got thrilled whenever colours were involved.
