I am a 100% fan of economy rice, just like my mum. Here, we had two plates of economy rice, one was my choice, another one my mum's.

Choon Seng Coffee Shop, the name of the shop resembles my Dad's name. Lol

During our last trip to Sibu, my hometown, my mum had a plan — that was for all of us to get hair cut at Sibu and she wanted to sponsor. Mind you, getting a hair cut at small town was darn cheap. Three of us for RM37. Whereas at Kuala Lumpur itself, me alone would be RM45. Yes, such a huge difference. Let's cut the chase. Before we got our hair cut, we went for our lunch. I wanted to eat economy rice, lo and behold, Dad drove to Choon Seng Coffee Shop.

Choon Seng Coffee Shop

I told my Dad that the shop's name almost resembled his. He did not aware until I mentioned it. Lol. Once here, I saw economical rice shop and I was intrigued because it served a few dishes which I could not find at Kuala Lumpur.

Economy Rice Stall

Economy rice stall at Sibu means an array of varieties of vegetables and protein for you to choose from, to eat with a plate of rice. It would be charged accordingly to what and the amount you took.

I saw them selling the pork fried in red rice wine and immediately I must take that one. And also a vegetable called 'manicai', a type of wild plants at Sarawak. I added scrambled egg dish and a soy stewed chicken for my son, we shared a plate od rice. Mum also a fan of economy rice so she took hers too — stir fry beansprouts, manicai and fried rice. In the end, my mum gave away her fish to me and my sons, she ended up only with vegetables. "Mum, you are very loving. I love you."

Husband saw there was a dish called gizzard stir fry at this stall and asked me to order for him.

Later on, my mum asked my youngest son whether did he want chicken. "Big yes!" Mum really went to shop and ordered a plate of chicken feet just for him. He loved it!

Islam Food Stall

Another stall here is called 'Makanan Islam' meaning Islam food. Something special about Sibu Town was that Malay people and Chinese people can sell their respective food side by side, in a same restaurant. The Muslims do not mind the Chinese using the word 'babi' openly at their menu. Just for your information, Muslima in our country are not allowed to eat pork as it is considered 'unpure' animal. So at where I stay at Kuala Lumpur, you rarely see Muslim stall and Chinese (who eats/sells pork) side by side each other. And we do not simply say out loud the word 'babi' means pig/pork. Very different here at Sibu.

The eldest son ordered 'nasi lemak' with fried chicken from this stall. It consisted of a fried chicken, vegetables and an egg, with fragrant rice cooked in coconut milk, and same 'sambal' and cucumbers.

Noodle stall

Husband ordered this dish called pork organ's soup from a noodle stall. It contained a lot of liver, cooked in special way, so soft and nice bite to it. A few pieces of intestines too, cooked in flavorful soup with alot of vegetables in and soup. I went and asked the lady boss how she cooked the liver till so soft. She said it was soaked with something. But she didn't mention what, when I Googled it up, I saw someone said to soak in milk?

On top of the liver soup, husband ordered two sets of half-boiled eggs too. He was actually on carnivore diet so he ate alot animal-based food.

Later on, after sharing my plate of rice with my son, I was not feeling full enough so I myself ordered another bowl of pork's organ soup. Very delicious!

We all ate till very full especially me! Haha! Everything was cheap at Sibu. So I couldn't resist not to order. Had gained some weight too. Till today, I was still being blown away by some cheap food and cheap services. My sons still mentioned every day that they missed Sibu. Maybe we are all more suitable for slow-paced quiet small town kind of living.
