If there’s one thing I have lived by in life is to never despise the teachings of an old person. I have come to appreciate the wise sayings of these people more than life coaches, therapists or mentors who are supposedly experts in their fields, it’s safe to say that their advice and teachings are the real deal, they are deep and ageless.
One thing about these elderly people is that they do not need to attain the highest level of education, heck! They do not need to go through the four walls of a school but they are damn good!. They are intelligent in their own way, surprisingly some of them are more intelligent than the so-called new generation today.
No matter how tired I am, I would never snub an elder neither will I turn a deaf ear to their advices or teachings, I’d listen to their words of wisdom because beneath those unending or boring stories lies deep wisdom that cannot be sold in the market and gem stones that would be beneficial to me.
Over the years I have been privileged to be advised by so many people, both people who weren’t making sense, people who just felt like having an opinion, and people who dished out words of wisdom.
It’s safe to say that my family did a good job in raising me, their principles, values, and wise sayings contributed immensely in making me the woman that I am today. Other than my parents, I was opportune to have teachers, mentors, Aunties, Uncles and so many more who were constantly guiding me with their words of wisdom but the one piece of wisdom I have come to love and cherish is the piece of advice by my High School teacher Mr Frank.
Mr Frank is a very intelligent man and didn’t fail to train his students well. In Mr Frank’s words “IB challenges are inevitable but your ability to look beyond them is everything, always imagine that in a week or month's time, you will remember that phase of your life and you will laugh because you made it”.
Surprisingly this piece of wisdom has kept me going, it has made me belittle challenges as I am ever convinced that I am not gonna die nor is the challenge going to last forever.
Of course, the challenges of life might hit me, it might cause a great shift in my life but it’s never going to kill me.
Whenever I am faced with a challenge I just imagine how I will laugh in a week, month, or year's time because of how worried sick I was for something that was surmountable, and trust me this has helped me in so many ways that I can ever think of and I have also been able to pass it on to anyone who cares to listen.
If you’ve ever met me for advice I’d somehow fall back to this piece of wisdom and trust me it does magic.
This advice from my teacher has helped me in this journey called life, it has made me see the different sides of challenges, and with it, I am less worried or tense about certain situations.
This piece of wisdom has planted a positive seed in me and it’s safe to say that the seed is bearing different fruits of its kind. This piece of wisdom has always strengthened my hope. When things look bad I am always hopeful that I’d make it out unscathed and to me no other motivation beats that.
