Hoy les quiero compartir el día en el que recibí mi titulo de Licenciado en la Universidad y como fue que terminé graduándome sin tener una graduación normal como la que muchos de los que estudiaron hace años la pudieron tener pero que, otros como yo, por causa de la situación mundial, no pudimos tener.

Today I want to share with you the day I received my Bachelor's degree at the University and how I ended up graduating without having a normal graduation as many of those who studied years ago were able to have it but others like me, because of the world situation, could not have it.

Fue todo un acontecimiento en mi vida el que por fin pudiera terminar la universidad, luego de muchas pruebas, tropiezos, baches y pare de contar, al final pude ver materializado un sueño que por años parecía imposible de alcanzar pero que si se pudo; por un momento creí que el paso siguiente al finalizar la universidad sería la celebración pero ese no era el propósito de Dios.

It was an event in my life that I could finally finish college, after many trials, stumbles, bumps and stop counting, at the end I could see materialized a dream that for years seemed impossible to achieve but it was possible; for a moment I thought that the next step after finishing college would be the celebration but that was not God's purpose.

Para Noviembre del año 2019, salí de la universidad. Luego de darme cuenta de que era libre de un horario académico, de hacer trabajos y tareas sin parar y destruirme por completo para alcanzar un papel sellado y firmado que me avalaría como Periodista Audiovisual, comencé a darme cuenta de que vendría una graduación y que posiblemente sería antes de lo que esperaba.

By November 2019, I was out of college. After realizing that I was free from an academic schedule, doing papers and assignments non-stop and completely destroying myself to reach a stamped and signed paper that would endorse me as an Audiovisual Journalist, I began to realize that a graduation was coming and that it would possibly be sooner than I expected.

Comenzando el año 2020, ya estaba planeando todo lo que haría para ese día. No teníamos una fecha específica aún pero toda la promoción esperaba que fuera para antes de la mitad del año y justo así fue, o mejor dicho, justo así lo tenían planeado; de hecho, la fecha elegida fue para el mes de Mayo de 2020, pero en Marzo, el país se declaraba oficialmente en alerta de pandemia y en encierro total de forma obligatoria.

Starting the year 2020, I was already planning everything I would do for that day. We didn't have a specific date yet but all the promotion expected it to be before the middle of the year and that's just how it was, or rather, that's just how they had it planned; in fact, the date chosen was for the month of May 2020, but in March, the country was officially declared in pandemic alert and in total lockdown on a mandatory basis.

Comprendiendo la situación, la graduación se suspendió y no supimos más de los preparativos por meses. A pesar de haber querido recibir respuesta de cuando sería la graduación, no podíamos hacer ningún tipo de reunión, acto o ceremonia para recibir dicho título, estaba prohibido. Yo me rendí, ya sabía que no tendría una graduación y la verdad no esperaba con tantas ansias asistir al acto pero creo que igual iba a asistir.

Understanding the situation, the graduation was suspended and we did not hear any more about the preparations for months. Even though we wanted to receive an answer as to when the graduation would be, we could not have any kind of meeting, act or ceremony to receive the degree, it was forbidden. I gave up, I knew I would not have a graduation and I was not really looking forward to it, but I think I was still going to attend.

Para el mes de Noviembre de ese mismo año, lograron un acuerdo para realizar un acto breve para la entrega de los títulos, pero había una condición: solo se podía ingresar con un invitado al acto. Para ese acto el precio del paquete era muy alto, yo había perdido mi empleo apenas inició la pandemia y no logré asistir a ese acto porque no contaba con el dinero (y creo que teniéndolo no habría asistido, para ser honesto).

For the month of November of that same year, they reached an agreement to carry out a brief act for the delivery of the titles, but there was a condition: you could only enter with a guest to the act. For that event the price of the package was very high, I had lost my job as soon as the pandemic started and I could not attend that event because I did not have the money (and I think that if I had the money I would not have attended, to be honest).

Luego del acto, para principios del año 2021, se realizó un segundo acuerdo con la universidad, el cual consistía en ir a recibir el título y los papeles que te entregan cuando ya no estudiarás más ahí, con un precio menor (signíficamente inferior, la diferencia no era mucha) pero no tendríamos un acto o ceremonia, sino que pasaríamos por secretaría y nos entregarían ahí nuestros documentos junto con el título y la madella.

After the ceremony, at the beginning of the year 2021, a second agreement was made with the university, which consisted of going to receive the degree and the papers that they give you when you will no longer study there, with a lower price (significantly lower, the difference was not much) but we would not have a ceremony, but we would go to the secretary's office and they would give us there our documents together with the degree and the medal.

Tuve la oportunidad de asistir a ese acto en compañía de una compañera que vive muy cerca de mi y logramos irnos en carro hasta la universidad ya que el transporte que iba hasta allá, a causa de la pandemia, quedó suspendido. Fue una bendición poder ir y venir en carro. Yo fui solo a recibir mi titulo por secretaría y ella asistió con su esposo, que manejaba el carro y fue quien nos tomó las únicas 2 fotos de ese día que hoy comparto con ustedes.

Tomé mi título por primera vez con mis propias manos el 18 de Marzo de 2021.

Al final de todo, obtuve mi titulo, sin importar la forma en la que lo obtuve, el logro de haber culminado una licenciatura en 4 años, creo que valió la pena haber vivido y haber pasado mucho de lo que pasé durante ese tiempo, incluso, valió la pena haberme graduado sin graduación y agradezco enormemente a Dios por haberme permitido llegar hasta ahí.

At the end of it all, I got my degree, no matter how I got it, the accomplishment of completing a bachelor's degree in 4 years, I think it was worth living and going through a lot of what I went through during that time, it was even worth graduating without graduation and I thank God immensely for allowing me to get there.
