The OG art quest on Zealy reminded me of one of the landmarks here in the region, a gigantic lion head (40 ft tall) which was carved out of a limestone along Kennon Road, Tuba Benguet. Per Wiki, the construction of it begun in 1969 but was halted and then continued in 1971 then it was unveiled in 1972 so it's already over 50 years old. I would say it represents the pride of the members of the Lion's Club of Baguio who conceptualized it many decades ago. And with such a history, I decided to use it as my subject on this art practice.
This was the initial draft. I started it around 5:30 in the afternoon. The photo on the right of the canvas is not mine and was sourced from here. Thanks to the owner.
Oops, it's too small so let's enlarge it a bit for a closer look. There it is and darn! What have I done! (LOL) With this being recorded on the blockchain, it is going to make me laugh even in the years to come. It's part of my learning journey so I wouldn't mind at all.
The husband couldn't stop laughing but he would not help me draw. The thing is that like me, he has not done any drawings too. So I teased him that we don't have the creative genes for our future kids to inherit.
Anyway, I closed the file and started a new one, this time doing direct painting on the empty page using the "Streamer" feature for a change. I used mostly the "Pencil" mode in my previous doodles so I decided to try a new one and see how it goes. With this being my 5th #artpractice, my hands seems to have adjusted to the pen tab and I feel it's a lot smoother this time.
I forgot to screen capture the initial stages but this is how it looked after an hour and 20 minutes from the timestamp of the photo above.
I did more edits, slowly and painstakingly and a lot of CTRL + Z to undo things and then doing better.
Gave the lion some more teeth and then retouching and refining the edges.
And this is final piece of my own interpretation of an old, wise, strong and a proud lion.
