Super typhoon Julian finally weakened so we are breathing a bit better. We are hoping it exits sooner and disappears into oblivion as we miss the sun so much. While there isn't any rain this morning, it's still gusty and cold, brrrr😰😰😰
Anyway, the October Hive Power Up Day is concluding and thought of a JIT post about it. I don't recall if there was a time where I missed writing of my participation but this HPUD marked my 34th month streak, the first being in January 2022 and been doing it since. I'm glad to have made the decision then to grow my stakes and keep participating in the initiative. It made me more accountable and committed to what I put out.
Yesterday, my account HP was 23,925 and with the creator and curation rewards added before the calendar (UTC) clocked into the 1st of October, the amount increased to 23,947. Looking at the numbers gave me a little aha moment and after a quick calculation, I powered up 52+ HIVE.
And with that, boom!
My HP has now crossed the 24k mark, which means I'm less than 1k away from completing my revised goal (25k HP) for the year. Perhaps I should have set a higher number, something that intimidates me and is a bit more challenging but then we don't like so much pressure so...😁
Joke aside, I was just being realistic.
But yes, I'm stoked. Looking back from when I started on the chain (where I was clueless) made me all the more thankful for this wonderful journey. I used to be less committed to most of my goals but being on Hive seems to have changed that.
Anyhow, if you are new and wondering what HPUD is about, it happens every first of the month and we are encouraged to power up at least 10 HIVE (to qualify for the Hivebuzz HPUD badge). Growing our HP increases our influence on the chain (higher vote value on content, stronger votes on proposals and witnesses). You can read this post for more details and a thorough explanation.
To put it simply, powering up is like saving our HIVE and making it grow over time. Speaking of which, here's an app that shows the increase in a Hive account's HP in real time:

I didn't even know this existed until over a week or two ago, thanks to someone who shared it on threads (for the life of me, I couldn't recall who it was, my apologies, but credit goes to him). But yes, as our HP increases, we earn more APR depending on how we effectively utilize it by curating content.
Speaking of tools and applications, Hivestats is one I usually check when wanting to view my account progress. At the time of this writing, it shows my current curation APR is 9.04% which is quite decent if you ask me.
Another app that is gamifying our Hive journey, milestones, and experiences is Hivebuzz with its cool badges and notifications. Through it, I learned that I finally managed to complete my 30th PUM after failing for 3 months because of missing one day from each of them. Hoping to keep the streak going once more.
