I still had a vivid memory of the day when the husband invited me out in HK saying we'd go shopping. I wore the biggest smile on my face as we got out of our hotel room that afternoon. "Yay, this is going to be the best anniversary shopping spree ever!" my mind was really excited. Wanting to get surprised, I didn't ask where we were headed to.
On other occasions, I would annoy him by asking too many questions, but on that particular day, I was well-behaved. After all, it was our 5th year as a couple and the first to be celebrated in that part of the world.
I was expecting we'd take a cab or the subway but he held my hand and we just walked. We took photos of interesting things on our way, then kept on walking. We would tease each other when we notice things we thought were odd, then we'd both giggle.
We have been on that walk for some time and I was getting tired and itching to ask the husband where we were going when suddenly, he led me inside the Yolo Mall II where these posters on the shop walls glared at us. I couldn't resist taking snaps of them and I felt my excitement coming back.
Could those on the posters be true though? I wondered...
Anyway, he continued holding one of my hands and we walked all the more without getting inside any of the shops. My patience was thinning and I was already yapping on my mind. He stopped in front of another shop's display and this one caught my eyes and took a snap of it.
"Would you wear that?" the husband asked when he noticed me smiling looking at the shoe.
"Why not?" I retorted but he rolled an eye and had that kind of sarcastic expression on his face like he was saying, "I doubt it!" so I teased him saying he just think so because he didn't really have the intention of buying one for me even if I wanted a pair for myself, lol!
We giggled then he led me for more walks. I guess we were just on for a window shopping, huh!
Stopping once again in front of Venilla Suite, he glanced at me smiling, looking like he was waiting for things to come out of my mouth but I was not about to give him the satisfaction so I just took some photographs. The shop was filled with fabulous ladies bags, stilettos, sandals and others. Posters in red and black were plastered around with the word "SALE" written on them.
I was waiting for him to lead me inside but when he noticed I had already taken some shots, he grabbed my hand yet again, held it tightly then walked the other direction so I had no choice but to follow.
I was getting furious in my head and a threatening war was broiling inside.
"Here we are!" his excited voice snapped me away from my thoughts. We seem to have been transported to another country by the looks of things around. "How the hell did we come to Huntington Beach Surf City?" I heard my mind asking.
I am yet to get an answer when he pulled my hand and led me for some more walk...
"I think I'm going to die..." my mind went on. Even the war that was about to breakout a minute ago lost its strength.
"This is it! We reached the end!" he proudly announced like he just won something. Glancing on my left, I noticed we were already at the end of the pier and it was already dark and there was just the two of us around.
With almost no energy, I just heaved a sigh and was about to slump on the floor when he drew me closer to him with a certain look that only the FarmGirl can identify. Smiling sweetly, he kissed my forehead then said, "Happy Anniversary dahling! I love you..." then gave me that giant hug which kind of melted my fury away.
"And now, let's go have some dinner! I am very hungry, aren't you?" he blurted out excitingly after some time. We heard our stomach growled in unison so we burst out laughing as he led me through the staircase. After a while, we found ourselves entering a bistro where we culminated the day happily with a hotpot in the middle of our table...
And yes, a cup of refreshing lemon tea too!
I may have been tired that afternoon and the husband didn't buy me a single thing from the shops, but we created another memory, one which had been added to our memory bank and we get to withdraw each time we wanted to be reminded of how the years passed. Our yearly anniversary celebrations are unique on their own and all memorable, but one thing really important to keep working towards is the bond that unites us both.
This story is what Tito Ed (@tengolotodo) refers to as a faction, a mix of real events and not-so-real ones that the mind conjured up today for my participation on the Anniversary posting event in this amazing community.
And oh, here's something quite amusing!
I learned from someone that a man intentionally holds a woman's hand when at a shopping mall to prevent her from splurging, lol!
Could that be true? Hmmm...
Thank you and Happy, Happy First Anniversary CCF!
