Hello Needleworkers
Seasons greetings from me to you all , hope you're all doing well?
Today, I want to share with you this asoebi dress I made for myself to attend my friends traditional marriage
Although I had second thoughts in joining the asoebi because of money and then the cost to pay tailors was super expensive this period but since she was close to me I decided to take a risk and try out making it on my own 😂
It took me days to study from youtube and luck left me , the day I wanted to sew the dress , my phone went off and there was no light around, I didn't even get to watch from YouTube whilst sewing therefore I couldn't even snap the steps like I was supposed to
I was alone and frustrated but I didn't give up, I took a bold step to start the work already
Please my apologies for incomplete pictures 😭
This were the materials I used in making the dress
- Ankara material
- 3 yard of black net
- Half yard of black dull face satin
- Breast pad
- Scissors
- Measuring tape
- Rings
And these are the steps I used in making it :
I measured my half length a measured my burst and then placed my measuring tape on the clothes and cut it out and cut out my lining too then I attached the lining to the half length I already cut out and turned it, after that I picked up my breast pad and inserted it in between the lining and the Ankara material and used my machine to sew it together properly as usual
After arriving at the half length I then proceeded to cutting out the down part which is the back of my skirt and the front I picked up my waist measurement keeps measurement and learn then placed my measuring tape on my material and cut them out properly after cutting the front I gave two
inches for zip allowance and placed my other material I had caught out on top of it and cut it out with the additional two inches
After then I measured 5 inches of my net and doubled them too just to create the neckline and then sew it into the half lenght, the upper part of the half length properly and I arrived at this
This was the point I attached the back of my clothes using the black material I had gotten and then I kept space so that I can go and mart with my rings of which I did
After inserting the ring I proceeded to cutting my hand I took my hand lens and cut it out properly
I attached the hand to the clothes and that was me getting close to finalize the outfit
This time a measured about 30 in of my net with a breath of 15 in so that I can attach it to the waste which will create a wrapping style for me after which I attached the net to the clothes starting from my half length
This was when I borrowed my friends phone to snap although the camera wasn't too nice
To finalize this work I caught out 6 in of my Ankara material making the middle part bigger than the other part and attached it below my armhole
And my dress was made at this point, I did all the finished work all the trimmings that was needed and tested the outfit and lo I was surprised at the outcome
I wore it to the occasion and got lots of compliments, even I couldn't believe I made this dress alone at first try , I was proud of myself ❤️
People were in love with the style ,even my parents doubted I made the dress myself but either ways I'm glad of how it turned out
Thank you do much everyone for reading through my post, have a nice day
Merry Christmas in advance
