Hello beautiful people,
It's been a while and i missed here
How are you all doing, hope youre all having a pleasant day
I'm so excited to post here after a long while. Due to my busy schedule I've had less time for myself talk less of sewing. But luck has it that i was able to make this elastic skirt for myself last week.
I've always had eyes for elastic outfits with Ankara, its unique in it's own way. Initially, i thought it to be so difficult because of the way it looked that even with the fact that I'm learning to sew, i still had intentions of giving it to my boss to make it for me . I never imagined making it myself.
I got so lucky last week because we had a one week break from lectures and my teaching practice too and so as not to stay idle, i ventured into what i like doing best ( sewing). I had this material that i was gifted by my sis although i had no style so i just left it but while pondering on what cloth to sew it dawned on me that i had this material and it would be nice if i made an elastic outfit from it. My boss supported the idea too and offered to assist me so i decided to make a high waist skirt with it. Without wasting time i hopped into cutting.
These are the steps i used in making it:
Firstly i got my measurements and folded my material into two using the biggest measurement (2×)which is the hips to fold the upper part of the material.
I multiplied each of my measurements time 2 because it's elastic and doesn't need the exact measurement due to the fact that the material will fold itself in. I measured my waist, hips and length and cut it out
After that was done, i picked what I've cut out and placed it on the material again and cut out another part which is the back of the skirt
When cutting the back out, you need the exact size as the front because theres no need for a zipper allowance
After i had both sides of my skirt the main work started
I fixed my elastic thread under and my normal thread on top of my sewing machine and started sewing
I picked on part of the skirt and did justice to it. I sew straight lines and to avoid the waist lines from opening wide i had to sew the lines very close to each other and after a while i started sewing with less that half an inch for each line
I continued till i got the the finishing part of which i repeated the same this as i did in the upper part, i sew each line very close to each other just so it could create a pencil skirt and it will not be wide at the edge
That was how i completed the front part of the skirt
After which i picked the second part and repeated the same process in it
It was more stressful than i thought😞 it took me a full day and a half to complete it and i was relieved when i got to this point
After this , i joined both parts making sure that the edges are equal.
Elastic outfits ain't easy i confess 😁 i felt the pain in my back when i finally finished but it was worth the stress though because it came out beautifully
I couldn't wait to flaunt it with my black crop top and it came out perfectly but i aint still satisfied, i feel i should make a top that matches it and i will💖. Anticipate my elastic top
Thank you so much for reading through, I really appreciate your comments and votes
Have a nice day Needle workers 💕💖
