“Hey!! What you up to?” inuke popped to say ‘hi’ in my head.
“Nothing just browsing through, Want to watch something other than Cocomelon. That ‘wheels on the bus’ song is stuck in my head, and I can't get it out.” I expressed my annoyance.
“What's wrong with that, It’s a cool song,” Inuke answered and started humming it, just to annoy me more.
“Heye!! Go away!!. I want to watch something or do something fun. So don't disturb me.” I asked, almost begging inuke to vanish.
“Ok!! OK!! I will go. Just remember that today is the last day.” Inuke reminded.
“Don't worry I already paid the EB and Jio Fiber Bills,” I assured inuke that his internet supply would remain uninterrupted.
“Arey Baklol!! Not that but the Books and Life competition by @creativemary .” inuke reminded me of the contest.
“I think we still have time tomorrow. Ummm, Do you think they still have that documentary about WW2 on Netflix.” I replied still browsing through the catalogue.
Inuke sighed. “With the current state of the world, you may witness WW3 live.”
“Way to cheer me up, Bro!!!. What do you want?” I asked inuke switching off the TV, knowing all too well that he was not going anywhere till I entertained him with some thoughts.
“I think we should try the contest, It is a simple one we have to write about a book that has the most impact on your life.” inuke explained the rules of the contest.
“Hmm, engineering mechanics comes to mind. Read that bloody thing 5times just to get passing marks and made me question my life.” I replied almost re-living the trauma the book caused me.
“Yeah!! I don't think it's a good idea to expose others to that nonsense. I mean a book that has a positive impact on your life and made your life better. Can you think of something like that?” inuke rephrased his question.
“I have read many books but I think I have implemented anything in my life so far,” I replied.
“Are you capable of having a single positive thought a day?” Inuke expressed his disappointment with my thought process. I think sometimes he forgets that he is my creation. And product of my imagination.
“Well!!”
“Don’t answer that.” Inuke cut me off. “I have an idea.”
“What’s that,” I asked.
“Come with me if you want to write.” inuke did the terminator.
“Really???” I stopped myself from commenting further on inuke attempt at the impression.
I followed him to the shelves of the 2nd bedroom. Inuke pointed to the box. Box in which I kept all the books I own. Some read, some partially read and some forgotten.
“Maybe this help.” inuke opened the box.
I jumped in without missing a beat.
“Hmm, I have read this, and that one, and this one too. This I don't understand. And this one was a waste of money. Lost interest in this one. Not read. Not Read. Not Read. Don’t know why I own this.”
I went on like this for about a minute or two.
“And now you know.” inuke said.
“Know what? These are just a bunch of books that I read. Why you brought me here.” I snapped at him.
“Bro!! Looks like a lot of negative charge ions in your body are blocking positive thoughts.” Instead of guiding me, inuke decided to throw more nonsense.
“That's incorrect. Electricity is used by our brain to process thoughts and emotions but your understanding is wrong..” I corrected inuke right away.
“I was trying to make a joke about... Never mind. I may be wrong about the thought process and brain process. But let me tell you this. All these books that you read have impacted your life. I am not saying that you are 100 times better than before but you have changed a little. Maybe by a fraction of what the book was supposed to do. But it did. You’ve changed a lot but you don't see it. Do you?”
“Umm..!! I don't see any change in myself?” I replied to inuke.
“That’s because those changes are subtle and you are comparing yourself with yesterday’s you. Take this book..” inuke picked ‘Eat that frog’ by Brian Tracy. “This book has 21 techniques for time management. You have implemented 1 maybe 2% of that in your life and because of that it is better by 2%.”
“Same goes for this.” inuke picked ‘Rich Dad Poor Dad’ by Robert Kiyosaki. “This one is about money management, you started managing your finances a little better because of this. I wouldn't say that you are Ambani now, but at least you do not have any debts or better spending habits. Do you agree or not?”
“And this one.” Inuke picked ‘Chanakya Neeti’. “I don't agree with all of his teachings, but it was written centuries ago, and most of the teachings hold strong to date”
“This is Wings of Fire, you are telling me that you are not inspired by the autobiography of Dr APJ Abdul Kalam. Come on Bro!! Books can impact your life. And the impact depends on how much thought you have put into it. Don’t expect that your life will change just because you have read this.” Inuke picked another book from the box.
“Don’t expect to bat like Sachin just because you read the cricket rule on Wikipedia. I guess what I am trying to say is everything takes practice.”
Inuke started stacking the books back in the box.
“Wait.!! Leave this one.” I picked ‘My Hanuman Chalisa’ by Devdutt Pattanaik. “I want to read it.”
“Really??” inuke asked with a smile. “What is this about?”
“Don’t know let's find out.”
Hello Everyone,
I am inuke. And this is my entry to the contest from @creativemary about Books and Life competition.Win 100 HBD and a secret surprise. It is a fun contest. Please do share your opinion and the book that impacted your life, Not just for the prize but to share the experience I believe that the same book can influence people differently. As for my entry, I wanted to write about how 'Rich Dad Poor Dad' has changed my life It has been 6years since I read that book and Although I am not super rich, I am able to manage my finances better. But that would be too mechanical (Isn't the correct word to describe the feel). Maybe I will write an elaborate post about it sometime.
Hope you enjoy this inner dialogue. See you in the next post.
