Greetings dear Hive mothers and fathers, today I am very happy and proud to share with you a new achievement of my 7-year-old son Rafael, if you have been reading my posts you will know that I have been teaching crochet and macrame to my son and he has already made two bracelets with the macramé technique and has also made three crochet amigurumis, not only have I been happy with the progress but also my son, so every time he manages to finish a project he goes to visit my grandfather and aunts to show the result, that is why one of my aunts, seeing all that Rafael has learned, asked him if he could make a Winnie the Pooh, to which my son answered in the affirmative, then she said that if he did, she would pay for it .
The funniest part of the matter is that my aunt thought that Rafael would not know how to tell her the price of the amigurumi, but it was not like that, Rafael told her the price immediately and told her that he needed half the money to buy the material, my aunt was surprised to see Rafael's knowledge regarding the crochet business 😂, I feel happy because this is something that has arisen out of Rafael's own interest, seeing me always working with crochet, he wanted to learn and is doing excellent, for which I consider that they are not only acquiring the necessary skills and that have great benefits for their cognitive development, but that they are also acquiring financial knowledge, knowing how much it costs to produce a product and how much the profit and value of their work would be.
This time, in addition to the excitement that making a figure in crochet gives him, Rafael had an economic motivation, for the first time he had a commission and the commitment to meet the expectations of his aunt as his first client. I supported him and took him to buy the threads, unlike me he uses acrylic wool which is more difficult to find than crochet thread, but the wool is better for him because it allows him to use a 3.5mm crochet hook, obtaining a bigger amugurumi size and also more fluffy 😊
I am super proud of his skill, his ability to follow instructions and his responsibility, but this time he exceeded my expectations, he managed to complete the amigurumi in 4 days, which is amazing even for an adult beginner, the first day he started with his feet, he made the legs and then joined the two legs with 3 chains, making single crochets over these chains to the next row to continue the torso, this is the first time that Rafael has made an amigurumi that has the legs joined in this way, since in the previous ones He has made the legs separately and I have then sewn them. But this time because of the character's design I thought it was better this way, I was afraid that he would not understand my instructions but he understood me very well and he was not wrong at any time in this important part to continue the body of the bear .
The next day Rafael continued with the body, then the color change would come, this part is always a bit complicated for most beginners, I only helped with a few stitches because Rafael had made them very tight, but then he resumed the row and went on alone. For me, his color change looks very neat and I consider that it is also a great achievement that will allow him to have more experience to make new figures in the future that have more than one color. He finished the body successfully.
On the third day Rafael did the head and he also did an arm, unfortunately I didn't take a photo of the result of that day, but the next day I did.
Today Rafael got up very early and came to bed with the needle and the wool, he had already had breakfast because he woke up my mom and made her make her breakfast 😄 I couldn't refuse so I told him the instructions to make the other arm, Rafael follows the instructions well but he still asks me to check if he did it correctly after each row, that's why I have to be with him while he does it, but in general there are very few mistakes that make him repeat a stitch or a row. Rafael then made the ears and the snout. Having all the parts ready I just took my needle and in a few minutes I sewed them together and edged the nose and eyes. I am already explaining to Rafael how to sew the parts, so I hope that for the next project he will do the sewing alone.
It is worth noting that Rafael also had school activities which he also completed every day, so it is surprising that he achieved his goal in just four days, even with everything he did in addition to this. Sometimes I feel like my son came to teach me and not the other way around, I'm so happy to witness his life 💛
