Hello Gardeners
How are you today ? I hope and pray, we are all always given health and also happiness in living this life. This time, I'm back to participating in the Hive Garden Community, to share stories about my gardening experiences and growing vegetables in my hydroponic garden. What happened during this week? keep watching my weekly hydroponic journal this time.

During this week in Medan City, the city where I live is experiencing a change of seasons. It seems, from the change in weather and hotter sunshine, and the fall of tree leaves indicates where I live is about to enter a dry period. The dry period in Medan City may be somewhat different from the dry season in other cities or countries. In Indonesia, even though it is said to be hot or dry season, occasional heavy rains still fall. So, that's the dynamics of life in a tropical country like Indonesia.

There are various activities that I do in my hydroopnik garden this week. I made additional hydroponic installations, sprayed organic rat repellent and various other routines.

Condition of Pakcoy in My Hydroponic Garden

First, I invite you to see the pakcoy that I grow in my hydroponic garden. In my journal hydroponics last week, I told about the condition of my pakcoy which was attacked by rats. Just like last week, the rats were still attacking the pakcoy that I planted. You can see from the photos I uploaded. There are about 60 pots of pakcoy that have been attacked by rats. We can see it from the leaves that the rats have eaten.

I'm about to run out of patience to deal with this rat infestation. Finally, last Monday night I made a huge batch of garlic slurry. Usually, I use garlic tincture to keep bugs away. I use two garlic cloves with one liter of water, then blend it. This time, I used 100 grams of garlic with `1 liter of water and then blended it into a solution. This garlic solution is very concentrated and the smell of garlic is very strong, I spray it all over my hydroponic garden. As a result, for the past two days I haven't heard the sound of rats anymore.

In addition, the conditions for the pakcoy that I planted in my hydroponic garden are still growing well and optimally. The Pakcoy that I planted was about 22 days old after sowing. I used a liquid fertilizer solution with a concentration of around 1100-1200 ppm for this planting period.

All pakcoy leaves look green and very fresh. Several pakcoy pots were seen growing bigger and taller than other pakcoys. I think it doesn't matter, because there is definitely a difference in the absorption power of each pakcoy.

Conditions of Lettuce in My Hydroponic Garden
Next, I invite my friends to see the condition of the lettuce that I grow in my hydroponic garden. I planted about 250 pots of lettuce on my balcony. Why do I plant lettuce on the balcony of the house? unlike other vegetables that are in my yard.

Lettuce is a green vegetable that is consumed by many people. Lettuce is also liked because of its beautiful shape and texture, so it is very suitable as a garnish for every dish and food. Basically, lettuce is a vegetable that is suitable for planting in the middle and highlands or an altitude of 600-1400 meters above sea level. Lettuce is not suitable for lowlands, especially areas with high sunlight. Because of this, when growing lettuce in my hydroponic garden, I limit the sunlight that will get to this vegetable. I'm trying to keep the hydroponic medium for my lettuce out of the sun when it's peaking. The results are quite good, as long as I do hydroponic gardening, the lettuce that I plant always produces an optimal harvest.

I have transferred all the salad seeds that I sowed to the hydroponic media that I have. I have moved all the seeds, I even planted lettuce in a wall hydropnic installation on the side wall of my house. For this period, I used hydroponic liquid fertilizer with a concentration of around 600-800 ppm for the salad I planted this time. I hope, the salad that I plant will produce a crop like last week's period.

Spinach Conditions in My Hydroponic Garden
IMG_5479.jpeg
During this planting period, I tried growing spinach with a hydroponic system. I tried growing about 80 pots of spinach, and the results haven't been great. The spinach that I planted grew unevenly and was not optimal. We can see this from the conditions where the growth of the spinach is not uniform, some of the spinach grows very tall and some of the other spinach does not seem to grow and is stagnant.

I'm still curious about the spinach in this hydroponic system. This week, I have also sown a lot of spinach seeds. I'm sowing about 270 pots of spinach for the next week's planting period. The spinach seeds that I sow are still growing well and optimally. I can't wait to transfer these spinach seeds to my hydroponic growing medium.

Mint Leaves Condition in My Hydroponic Garden
IMG_5470.jpeg

Finally, I invite you to see the condition of the mint leaves that I plant in my hydroponic garden. This week, I added two new pvc hydroponic media to my house. I made a pvc pipe and installed it on my iron fence. I attached this pvc pipe with cable ties and found it to be very effective.

I made a lot of hydroponic installations for mint leaves because of the high demand for my mint leaves. Every week, I need about 500 grams of mint leaves for my customers, and I cannot fulfill that amount from the capacity of my hydroponic garden. The mint leaves that I planted in my new hydroponic media grew well and optimally. I also plan to add more hydroponic media for this mint.

Ok, that's all for my weekly journal hydroponics this time. See you next week.

Is it safe to grow vegetables in these polystyrene boxes? Many studies have shown that it leaches in the soil and water with time.

hello @rocksg thank you for stopping by
Hello, I covered this styrofoam box with a tarpaulin to prevent leaks so water doesn't directly meet the styrofoam. I just heard about the study, I think I have to learn more.

Good to know.
