How WEB3 platforms like Hive Outshine WEB2 in Content Monetization

in #hive-167922last year

If you haven't heard yet, hear it now, Twitter started the ad-revenue-sharing program for creators initiative in February and recently announced the first round of payouts will amount to $5 million. Those who are eligible Blue subscribers and have passed all the requirements have already started receiving payments.

Special Requirements on WEB2

This is the first thing that I want to point out. It might feel special to receive payment from a WEB2 platform especially if you passed all the requirements but one thing is certain, WEB3 doesn't need special requirements. You don't need blue ticks and stripe accounts to receive your first payout on Hive. All you need is to sign up for an account and start creating content.

Don't try to get me started on the fact that you need to build a presence to start earning because these days, the Leofinance team has made it possible to earn with whatever gifts or talents you have. You can utilize Leothreads, which is a similar platform to Twitter and get the necessary attention required to start racking in your payout.

All the long processes aren't needed, simply have a device that connects to the internet and the rest is history. So there would be nothing special about Twitter's new payment program because we already started it here. Everything they are doing is basically copying off of us and making it seem innovative.

Transparency and Inclusiveness on WEB3

Speaking of genuine intentions, we all know, WEB2 doesn't care about its users, they are all in it for profit. So they can share the bounty with investors and the people who built it.

Over here, everyone who is actively involved in building this ecosystem is rewarded and has a share in the reward pool. It's about bringing wealth and dividing it amongst every person. Not something that happens in a typical WEB2 platform where wealth is concentrated in the hands of a few persons.

WEB2 Censorship Concerns

There's this one other thing that can't be ignored in all of this, WEB2 no matter how juicy their innovations still censors their users. This is a user base that is bringing them profit by their daily activities but they do not hesitate to suspend or delete their accounts if anything comes up.

Censorship is something individuals and content creators should frown upon in this century. But, no, people are still drowning in the deep waters of WEB2 manipulative runners and thinking they have their best interests at heart. They don't. Time and time again, we have seen that WEB2 has none of our interests at heart. They are mostly concerned about their pockets.

Spam and Bots

Apart from this, something of this nature will definitely be abused and a lot of people will want a share in the pie which will lead to spam. Bots will strung up more than ever before and again, as long as these activities are bringing profit, I'm not sure the owners will mind.

After all, they are not answering to anyone, and since there is no transparency over the percentage of ad revenue shared. Unlike Hive where everything we do in each community is registered on the blockchain for everyone to see. So even the proposed LeoAds, which intends to give authors a percentage share in ad revenue generated by their evergreen articles is a welcome development and beats WEB2 hands down.

Hive's Success in Avoiding Spam and Holding Value

Without mincing words, Hive has done a great job of avoiding spam and holding up its value. Since everything is transparent, we can always see the reward distribution pool for ourselves. And every active engagement and content creation results in real revenue for all Hivers irrespective of the community they are interacting on.

On Hive and LeoFinance, the goal of putting the value in the hands of content creators rather than large corporations is spot on. And we are doing a better job at it than any WEB2 platform would ever do.

My main issue is the lack of support for evergreen content. I know LeoAds is trying to address that, but it needs to be addressed on a protocol level somehow as there are many users that don’t like using Leofinance.

I am sure the team will create multiple avenues to address that so that users will be comfortable with using Leofinance more. Every feedback on this is appreciated. Thank you.
