Going for Lunch at Noordhoek Farm Village via Chapman's Peak Drive

in #hive-1637722 days ago

This post is for the #wednesdaywalk challenge and the #makemesmile challenge collaboration. This collaboration initially took place once a month, but due to its popularity, @tattoodjay (of the #wednesdaywalk) and @elizacheng (of #makemesmile) decided to make it a weekly thing.

If you want to know more about the rules, visit this week's post by @tattoodjay where you will find all the rules at the bottom of his post after you've enjoyed his beautiful photos from his walk.

As promised in last week's post, Enjoying Chapman's Peak Drive, I will share some more photos of our journey along Chapman's Peak Drive, Cape Town, South Africa. As planned, our journey took us to the Noordhoek Farm Village via Chapman's Peak Drive where we would stop over for lunch.

Just after we left the Chapman's Peak Drive Lookout Point, this was one of the first views we enjoyed while driving along Chapman's Peak Drive. At the time, I didn't notice it...as (1)we were driving, (2)I wasn't aware of it, and (3)I was trying to focus on getting some nice shots of the views around us... But, it was only when I went through my photos after we returned from Cape Town, that I noticed how visible the Slangkop Lighthouse is even from this distance as seen in this photo (in the centre of the photo). I shared some photos I took a few days later when we passed this lighthouse in this post.

Hopefully, the next couple of images will be able to give you an idea/feeling of traveling on Chapman's Peak Drive.

While my brother-in-law was driving, I was in the front passenger seat, capturing every moment to the best of my ability.

In the next photo, the bonnet of the car is also visible with some glare from the window... But it gives you an idea... It shows you that there are no long open road ahead of you. It is twisting and turning all the time, but with the most spectacular views all the time.

DSC_1104.jpg

In the next photo, there was a lot of reflections in the window, but you can see the safety precautions right above the road to catch any falling rocks.

This road is also constantly being monitored and they close it immediately to any traffic as soon as it become unsafe to travel on due to fog/mist, or bad weather.

A typical scene...or view of the road ahead...

Just after the image above, I took the next shot, looking out to the right.

This is where we would be driving soon, just after coming out of a "tunnel" that we were about to enter soon. Keep reading, you'll see what I mean soon...lol.

Here we were approaching the tunnel.

About to enter the "tunnel".

Here you can see why I am referring to it as...the "tunnel". While you are passing through underneath some overhanging rocks, the one side remains open.

Here we were about to exit from the first stage of driving underneath a concrete "ceiling", before going through a second phase, and then driving under some solid rock which you can see in the background.

Entering and passing through the second stage supported by concrete construction.

Exiting from underneath the concrete construction to continue driving below solid rock formation.

Then continuing on the winding road...

The first view of Noordhoek, with the beach in the foreground. The literal translation of "Noordhoek" to English would be "North Corner".

More views of the stunning white sand on the beach in Noordhoek.

In the next image, some people are visible on the beach, enjoying the sunny weather.

We then arrived at our destination, the Noordhoek Farm Village, at the Noordhoek Village Hotel.

It has a strong countryside/farm-like atmosphere and is a very popular stop-over point for tourists, motor-cyclists, and cyclists alike. We even saw this visitor on horseback...lol.

We enjoyed lunch in this beautiful open air farmer's market.

I loved the simple, yet impressive architecture of the Noordhoek Village Hotel in the Background.

We spent a couple of hours at the Noordhoek Farm Village having an awesome time there.

With this, we come to the end of today's post. I'll share more stunning views in my next post.

This is one of the reasons why I wanted to be seated near the window (I rode public transo).

I could capture beautiful sceneries or anything that will catch my attention.

The view was fantastic!

That's awesome! It's always nice to have window-seat!

New additional protection great to see, obviously not there when we were last there in 1992. Love this part of the country, such wonderful memories stirred seeing your photography.

WOW that scenery and those windy roads, I love drivign roads like that well if there isnt to much other traffic especially

thats in Interesting tunnel almost half a tunnel

Thanks for joining the Wednesday walk
Have a great day

I love driving roads like that too. And the traffic wasn't that bad either. It might be due to the fact that you pay a toll fee to go over Chapman's Peak. We paid something like R60.00 (about $3.25). That means you find only people who go for a casual drive to enjoy the views and tourists on this route. So it's a very relaxing drive.

The locals (or normal traffic) tend to take the alternative route which is not following the coast line and needless to say, doesn't offer these beautiful views.

Yes, I found the tunnel very interesting too!

You must have a great day too, @tattoodjay!

Amazing post. I like the winding roads, the tunnel and the open air farmer's market where you had lunch. The architectural design of Noordhoek village hotel is so captivating. Waiting for you to share more stunning photos.
