Checking Out the Festive Annual Da Nang Christmas Market
Welcome, holiday fans!
This weekend I attended Da Nang, Vietnam's festive annual Christmas market held at a posh gated community called Premier Village. While cramped at times, the 3-day event offered lots of cheerful diversions like live music, activities, local shopping and foods that put everyone in the merry mood.
This year 60 diverse vendors from across Da Nang set up colorful booths selling artisan crafts, ornaments, clothing and treats. Venturing from the parking through Premier Village toward the market stalls, the walk felt longer than expected.
But upon entering the market proper, navigating quicky turned snug. Large crowds packed the makeshift alleys between booths. Moving shoulder-to-shoulder put getting lost in long browse sessions tricky, but generated a buzzing atmosphere.
Center-stage, performers like carolers and dancers kept spirits bright. People eagerly participated in holiday games like gingerbread decorating contests.
The aroma of roasted chestnuts and mulled wine wafted through the grounds. And my favorite neighborhood bar Section 30 even ran a lively booth where I stopped by for festive Bloody Marys with friends amidst the shopping.
Overall Da Nang's terrific community turnout for this cheery market made all logistical hurdles forgettable.
Seeing locals unite through music, food, drink and unique handicrafts embodied the warmth of the season. As someone who assisted the graphics and branding for this market, watching people enjoy the event firsthand brought extra holiday happiness.
Here's to more seasonal celebrations ahead!
