I've visited Prince Edward and Mongkok on multiple occasions, and whenever I have to cross a highway, I normally use a footbridge. I was surprised to see Indonesian domestic workers occupying this particular footbridge, and seemed to have established a small market there. Visitors would undoubtedly be drawn in by the fragrant Indonesian food offered by many vendors on multiple corners. Those Indonesians seemed own the entire footbridge. I did question, though, why they were permitted to sell goods there, as I am aware that it is against the law for domestic workers to perform side jobs in public areas, unless they have a permit.
I was strolling across this bridge as though I were at an authentic Indonesian food market. Numerous Indonesian cuisines, delicacies, snacks, appetizers, beverages, and even Indonesian ingredients are sold by domestic workers. Foods are prepared and waiting to be taken. People were coming by because they were interested in the foods on the ground, just like me.
I've eaten Indonesian food, and I can attest to the fact that it is full of flavors and spices that genuinely capture the diversity of their culture. Some meals are similar to Filipino cuisine, most likely due to the usage of Asian spices and ingredients in both nations. However, I noticed that Indonesians enjoy spicy meals. I always see chiles in dishes and sauces wherever I go. @anggreklestari might be able to explain why.
Nasi Goreng, satay, and rendang, are among those popular dishes here, and many Indo foods have been incorporated into Chinese cuisine that are served in some Chinese restaurants here.
Have anyone tried Indonesian foods? Do you like them?
Thanks for your time.
