Hello everyone!!! 😁
Today is Sunday
Yes, that day where we all supposedly rest, or relax
...and I got to do neither of those two things in the morning 😂.
Well, I'm not going to complain 😅, because I really signed up for this plan all by myself...and was great!!
Let me tell you about it:
Yesterday I met my friend Ale, who is also a photographer, and we were talking for a while and he told me that today he had a session in the Lily's Studio. This was supposed to be last week on Friday but had to be postponed to today. As it is in the same studio where I work and I had to go that day, we had agreed that I would also be present during his photos, but as it was postponed it could not be so. However, he told me that the whole thing would be today and so I rejoined the plan.
The studio is a bit far from my house, but since my husband was supposed to go there too, I took advantage of "la botella", a way we Cubans refer to when we get a ride to our destination or nearby.
On the way, you see...phone in hand I was looking at how much green area surrounds our city, especially in the outlying municipalities and that in turn, is intermingled with the obvious ¨civilization¨ and its electricity towers that swarm almost anywhere offering us a tangle of wires that you either hate or love in the picture, depending on the case of the image.
To get to the studio we crossed an area known as the Bridge of 100, where several wide roads pass through on elevated bridges and underneath it, leading to other provinces of the country.
Once there, the real activity began. When I arrived Ale was already there and the girl who was going to be photographed was already being made up and dressed. In our country it is a tradition to take pictures of girls for their 15th birthday, although some boys also have their pictures taken. It is a very special moment and although it is not cheap, parents have to make the effort to be able to get the quinceañera photos of their little ones that are growing up.
For the girls, this date often marks the crossing of an imaginary line and so mom starts allowing them to wear make-up, change their hair color or cut their hair, plan nights out, and some even imply that they may have formal boyfriends. So 15 is not taken lightly in my homeland.
On this occasion the girl had several outfit changes, between ball gowns, princess gowns and casual clothing. Ale was in charge of photography and on this occasion I acted as her assistant helping with the lighting and staging in the photos that required it.
On the other hand, there is a fact that we must not forget and that is that these girls generally have never been in front of a camera, except for their phones or their friends and family, but not professional ones, so most of them are shy and some of them even uncomfortable.
One of my goals is to make the model feel at ease, so I talk to them a lot, I make jokes with them so that they feel more relaxed and can really enjoy the moment. So working on the girls' acting was also one of my tasks today.
Even though it's Sunday and I should be resting at home, I turned this day into something different. A time to share with friends and colleagues, to learn a lot of new things because every time I share with other photographers I tell them that I become a sponge that tries to absorb all the knowledge I can.
And yes, I could be watching a movie at home, but this plan for me, was unbeatable...well...maybe if at the end we would have added a little wine, but my husband arrived and I didn't want to make him wait too long, because he had another matter to solve too, so I took advantage of the "bottle" back again and here I am, now resting and relaxing at home, while I tell you about my Sunday.
Greetings! 😋
