My husband and one of our kids and I rented the most adorable beach cottage through AirBnB. It is located on Tybee Island in Georgia — a state on the southeast coast of the U.S. north of Florida.
We are a five-minute walk to the beach, which is very nice. Unfortunately, upon arrival I fell ill and discovered I have Covid, so short walks to the beach in between naps is all I can manage.
The architecture is old and in some places quite weathered from the salt and the buffeting winds from the sea.
Our cottage is fairly updated, with adorable beach artwork and decor throughout.
It has everything we need for a pleasant week away from home and cold up north — a full kitchen and dining room, three bedrooms, a nice electric fireplace for when it’s chilly, a living room with a big TV and Netflix, and a nice covered patio.
Our other daughter was going to fly down to join us for several days, but changed her mind when I tested positive for Covid. I cannot blame her. I would have done the same! And we are sad we won’t see her, but I do have a room all to myself, which is nice while I recover.
Okay, let’s take a walk to the beach and to the pier, where you can see that in the summertime it will be very busy with tourists wanting food, drink and ice cream!
I set up my chair in a socially distanced spot on the beach, sat down, and immediately fell asleep for an hour. It was glorious, but I did get a bit of a sunburn.
When I woke I took a walk along the beach. It seemed to require a lot of energy!
On the way back we saw a really interesting sign in the dunes! That is not something you would see in my home state of Minnesota! Venomous snakes??
Later in the afternoon, my husband and daughter went to do some touring and walked to the top of a lighthouse. I slept some more!
Today we took a walk to the pier.
There is a large pavilion with shops and ice cream stands. They are not open now, in the off season, but I’m sure they are very busy on hot summer days.
Even though my husband and daughter don’t have Covid (my husband had it in December, and we are pretty certain our daughter has a natural immunity to it as she has been exposed many times but never tested positive), they are in a very low-key mode and do not mind taking things at a slow pace for the first few days of our trip.
After our trip out to the pier we walked back to our beach cottage. We passed some cute shops and sidewalk cafes on the way, as well as a rather frightening hurricane storm surge sign.
Unfortunately I forgot to take pictures of the cafes! (My brain is not so sharp right now.) That little sojourn was all I could manage for today. When we returned from our little walk I fell asleep for three hours!
Well that is all for this Market Friday post. It’s good to be back and joining in on @dswigle’s weekly Market Friday initiative, which is so fun! It brings together people from all over the world who share articles and photos about where they shop and conduct commerce. Be sure to check it out if you haven’t done so!
See you next time!
