Earthly Memories

Science was revolving, technology evolution started a billion years ago, and I think on earth, the ecosystem there is pretty messed up now. I was never told why we couldn't stay on earth since Mars was my birth world; that's what our superiors called it our birth world; we weren't earthly.

We had one purpose till death: to stay loyal to the mother bot; they call it the Queen Tech. Loyalty in the sense of putting your life on the line if you had to; we went to other planets to dominate them, enslave parasites, and aliens.

I always felt something was off about this whole planet; there were specific things that we swore an oath never to do, one of which was love. I don't even know what that is, but we were specifically warned never to even say such a word.

Food, hunger, sex, affection, disobedience —the list goes on. We don't take anything through our mouths; we only use our mouths for talking proposes and only when we were asked to talk or maybe answer a question from a superior. We took two doses of injection every day, one for nutrient for our bodies and the other of which I have no idea of.

My mini bot, Zayn, woke me up; she's like a parent to me, every human had such a robot in their apartment, it's like they are there to keep us in line, remind us of the rules, and help us through our delayed lives. After Mother Bot, the next in line was all the other robots on Mars. Whether big or small as a chip, we are meant to remain loyal to them.

"Subject 021, time for training." I rolled over on my bed, groaning. Not that again. I wonder why no one complains about how tough training gets yet still wakes up the next day to do it again.

"I don't want to go Zayn. Just two more minutes." I said still very sleepy. "That will be solely disobeying the queen bot orders." Zayn trailed.

I growled, not feeling aesthetic about waking up early; that was knowledge I got to understand about my body. Things like this made me feel off.

sometimes I think I get a little too….I dunno Eccentric? Like something I get this rush of impulse like something was about to happen. And today wasn't any different. I stare at the glass ceiling getting up to put on my training suit. Sometimes I often ponder on why humans were named after numbers but the robots are given actual names.

I brushed the thought off, as I got ready to take my daily dose of injection. I entered the elevator with other humans, another thing that was highly forbidden was interaction. You only answer to the queen mother or your parent bot, or as I like to call it my mini bot.

It's almost fascinating how this world was built, all the tall building were made up from glass and steel iron. Everywhere was open to viewing, we walked on transparent glass floors, that the persons beyond that floor could literally see who's walking on top. It was cool but that showed that privacy wasn't permitted.

As our elevator stopped on the floor, we all went out, moving to the injection section to start a new day. I was on the line, that's till it was my turn and the power went off. Funny news was we didn't get natural light so we created what we call the Techna Light System, the only light supplier was cut off. I didn't even know when I was pushing out of the line because of the confusion, everyone was pretty much in a panicked about the black out. But in a short while the lights were back.

I made my way without knowing into the injected group and we were moved to the training floor. It wasn't anything scary; we just get picked to fight with an AI fighting robot. You win, you get to rest, you don't... you fight till the next day, no breaks.

But today was different. I didn't feel like fighting; something kept getting on my nerves, and honestly, I didn't know what. Maybe it was because we humans can't interact freely like the robots, or the fact that these robots honestly want us to beat a machine that is beyond our strength, or it was just me being grumpy from missing my injections today.

"Subject 021, focus." My superior said, Of course it was a robot.

"Yes, superior." I answered just so to get the robot out of my case. But I didn't feel like obeying my superior, which was new. For some reason, my legs just took me out of the training hall. I don't know why I felt less interested in whatever was going on in the training hall, like I wasn't thrilled about training.

I walked through the hall leading to the library and class section. A lot was on my mind; something I rarely did was thinking. And for some odd reason I don't feel comfortable looking at bots or humans; it felt like something was missing, like everything I have been told all my life was a lie. Still, I brushed it off, thinking so much was obviously causing me headaches, something I also rarely had.

I sat on a seat, waiting for a bot to come and ask me what I wanted to read like usual. Well, that's till I saw that door that I never noticed was there; it was just up ahead. There was a sign that said, 'No humans allowed, just robots'. My curiosity picked up. And let me tell you that I have never been curious before.

I was in awe once I snuck into the room. It didn't even have a password; maybe they thought they had us in control so we wouldn't think of accessing what was behind the door.

I saw old files of every human case there with our actual names on them. But it didn't just end there; I saw some really old photo albums of humans, and as I flipped through the albums, I saw humans together, I saw trees, flowers, birds and I saw things that went against our morality to the Mother Bot. Affection, love,I saw humans eating food— I was to shocked to understand but I still wanted to know more.

Were our superiors lying to us? Of course they have to be. As I thought hard and harder, my head felt numb, and for the first time, I had something like a flashback into my past life. I saw myself in a group of people talking; I saw myself eating; I saw myself sharing affectionate moments with someone; I couldn't pinpoint who. I saw myself holding a child, my child.

At some point it felt like I was hyperventilating as the waves of memories kept coming. I finally got to know why we were sent to Mars; it wasn't by choice, but we were enslaved, our memories wiped out from our earthly lives, we were sent to die in battle field, we were denied the privilege of rationality because indeed we were superiors over the robots, we had something they didn't have a will to choose to make our decision, so they took that will by erasing our memories, making us like them robots. I always knew something was wrong with those injections; but this only proves I was was right, those injections were used as a means of degrading, numbing our thinking into nothing. We had no emotions, nothing, just the purpose of following the Mother Bot. Obeying our superiors

I couldn't believe I had a child; I couldn't recall everything, but I knew I had a child out there somewhere. There was something warm coming out of my eyes, and my heart was pounding rapidly. That's when I realized I was crying.

I looked at the old photo album that triggered my memories. I needed to hide this and take it to my department. I needed to let every human know about this act from the superiors. We created robots, yet we are the ones who are being controlled and killed. They even stole our names—how pathetic—just so they could be like us.

But how? Who would believe me? I know if I had to do this, I had to be careful unless I might get my memories wiped out again.

So I waited for the perfect time. Going back to earth was now my goal.

Wow this an interesting story and thought provoking.

Looking at the implications of advancement of robotics, though it has been emphasized in a lot of SciFi movies about the end of humans caused by the rise of robots.

Recently I watched a particular news where Elon Musk stated the need to create agent that specialises on being watchdogs for AI companies, this proves the theories that predicts the revolution of artificial intelligence and how it can become a threat to humans.

Yes. I just watched this anime where Ai became the rulers and humans were back into slavery then boom this came out of it. I'm glad you read this. Thanks ❤️‍🔥 from #dreemport

Eeeeshhh!
This is an incredible story. It reminds me of a movie, The Island. I love the excellent narration. I got the whole idea but I wanted to know where it was going so you had me from start to finish. Now I want to know how it is going to play out with the bots and humans.

Well done.

Quite an interesting read! Taking us through beautiful thoughts and feelings.

I somehow imagine that technology might someday be somewhat harmful or bad to humans and maybe a war between bots and humans, because the moment bots have free will to decide whether to obey or disobey humans. Then i believe that's where the problem starts from.

I love the futuristic feeling to this.
Best wishes!

This was a wonderfully creative story, @jazclassic. The humans have been enslaved by the robots and had their memories wiped. They are forbidden from doing anything that actually makes them human. Intriguing. Missing her dose of medicine meant that her brain was allowed a glimmer of humanity through the trigger provided by the photo album. Your story would have been elevated if you had done two things: Edited it for spelling and grammar and spent more time developing and progressing the story through dialogue. This would have helped to reveal so much more of the relationship between the robots and humans and provided deeper insights into both worlds. I really enjoyed the read.

Thank you for writing in The Ink Well.

What an amazing Write-up, this is unbelievable, putting all of these together is awesome.

I Love the Storyline and thanks a bunch for sharing this beautiful Write-up.
