Holy Protection ruleset in Splinterlands - go forward and use some already powerful abilites

in #splinterlands7 months ago

Dear readers we are in a not so good environment for Splinterlands and how should I say... this week it got me already depressed even more.
You hopefully remember from my last posts that the performance of my deck is better than my SPS stake. Indeed my Glint multiplier is already below 1. My idea of downgrading the deck began to take shape and already got some traction.
Then today I read from the current Townhall that the requirements for the SPS stake might be doubled and/or there will be a seasonal fee for playing in the wild format. So what is the consequence? Is it the liquidation of all of my Splinterlands assets?

... jump over to gameplay ...

Ruleset of the week is called "Holy Protection"

In essence all units ignore the first damage they take.
More en detail it reads: "All units gain the Divine Shield ability which reduces the damage of the first attack received to 0.

Divine Shield will be re-applied when a unit is Resurrected.

Blast damage will remove divine shield."

Let us make another jump to a battle of mine with Holy protection ruleset:

This battle has some other specialties (namely allowing only Ranged attack units), but I chose this battle because it will show the effect of another ability useful in Holy Protection ruleset.
In the end this battle was about the usefulness of some abilities. My main point was the dual attack of my Axemaster while my enemy fought with Wave Brood and Taunt ability.

Round 1 already showed my demise and the incredible strength of Wave Brood. While I managed to hurt Wave Brood a little, my first line got completely swept away in Round 1, already.

Axe Master hit and in Round 2 I was finally able to take Wave Brood off the board, but let us say my ability to deal damage was somehow restricted.

So please have a look at the two Gargoyas facing each other in front row to have an idea of how my chances were to still win this battle: "less good".
I just had not enough units left that could have worked their way through my opponent's blessed protections!

How came this defeat? -It was not only Wave Brood's Taunt ability, but even more Swamp Spitter's Repair ability. Along with Holy Protection ruleset I just had not enough attacks to take any enemy off the board in a short manner. Instead any of my opponent's units would take me ages to defeat.
My Double Strike ability on Axe Master was clearly the best decision I made, but all in all, my opponent did a better job in choosing his lineup.
And as for Holy Protection ruleset: Abilities that are already useful very much, they become even more useful!
Same and especially holds truth for "Blast" ability, but I think this ability is already covered by so many reports, I chose some other abilities to write about.
