Hello readers! Good news is if you are reading this you still not believe the Splinterlands game to be dead. Unfortunately it seems to me like it is dying and it only gets worse.
So this is what "doom and gloom"-vibes must feel like.
I really have nothing new nor exciting to write about. I started selling a part of my deck already, but it seems to get worse. Last season I even passed Diamond league and entered Champions league. My Glint modifier gets worse and worse. I mean... is there any end to this death spiral?
Ruleset of the week: It is called "Keep Your Distance".
And it reads: "Units with melee attacks may not be used.
Use Phase, Void, Void Armor, and Magic Reflect to counter magic attacks.
Use Headwinds and Return Fire to counter ranged attacks.
Units with 2 types of attack (which include melee) cannot be used."
So basically it is: Any unit that has an melee attack you cannot use for this battle when "Keep Your Distance"-ruleset is active.
What do I think its implications are: You will see a lot more of magic attack units, probably. I think ranged attacks still have too much of a flaw to be used more often thanks to this ruleset. But let us see...
Let us have a look at one of my battles including "Keep Your Distance"-ruleset here:

So I think this is an interesting setup considering my ideas above. You sure see a lot magic attack. But also some non-attack units as well as ranged attack. Why is it?
To be honest it is only half the truth because one of my units pushes the adjacent non-attack units with its Weaponmaster ability and gives them magic attack power. So we are back to my initial considerations.
Round 1 already went good for me. Round 2 even more. My units had already beaten up half of my opponent's lineup, among the beaten were some more dangerous units.
So by the end of Round 3 it is again ranged attack that is disabled in front row on my opponent's side. My lineup on the contrary was still quite intact.
As mused before "Keep Your Distance" ruleset is another good usecase for magic attack units. That is even more true for this battle in particular as Silenced Summoners ruleoption disables my opponent's summoner ability which could have weakened magic attacks.
However it could have hurt to use magic attack if not for Silenced Summoners.
Nevertheless I think Keep Your Distance ruleset is another fine usecase for magic attack units.
