Today I took Scarlett for a hike at a nearby park, but my phone died during the hike and I didn’t have my physical car key with me, so I was unable to get back into my car when we finished our hike. So I had to walk about an hour home to get my key (and recharge my phone). On the walk I thought it would be a good idea to pick up cans on the side of the ride as part of a #cleanplanet initiative. Where I live, bottles and cans fetch a 10 cent deposit, so it’s actually beneficial to gather them and turn them in. Over the course of the walk I scooped up 11 cans and bottles, which was all I could fit in my pockets. That’s a solid $1.10, plus a cleaner neighborhood! I plan to go back and gather the rest on a future walk. It was actually mind blowing to see how many there were in such a rural area. Oh well, as the saying goes, one man’s trash is another man’s treasure.
