Every week there is a Splinterlands challenge to a tutorial this week's post. I also encourage Splinterlands players to partake in the challenge because they get to share their knowledge with other players. This week, I will talk about the importance of levels for monsters and summoners.
Summoners
Summoners are important because they are the first thing that you pick in a fight. Every summoner comes with some abilities and the level determines what level cards you can use along with it. You need one for every single battle. Above is a summoner that I have called Thaddius Brood. Every summoner comes with some abilities and the one that I mentioned above decreases my opponent's magic and health by 1. These abilities can be the difference between a win and a loss so you should carefully pick your summoners for each fight depending on the battle.
At level 1, you can play only level 1 cards for normal, rare, epic, and legendary cards. When the card is level 6, I can play common cards up to level 8, rare cards up to level 6, epic cards up to level 5 and legendary cards up to level 3.
Monsters
Above is a card called Venari Bonesmith. I have this card at level but this card starts off with life leech. This card learns poison at level 4 and dispel at level 8. Leveling this card increases the stats and skills of the cards so this could give you an edge over your opponent and depending on the mana available, you can have up to 6 monsters on the field.
One thing to note about summoners is that I can't play this card at level 8. My summoner is only level 6 so the maximum level of this card that I can play is level 6. You can see this in the card selection stage with the yellow ! on the card above. So the focus should be on the summoners first then the monsters. It doesn't make sense to level up a monster if you can't use it. So don't make the same mistake as me. The stats and dispel ability are not accessible to me due to my summoner being too low level.
Conclusion
One of the biggest factors in your fight will be the levels of your summoner and monsters. Having a high-level summoner but having no leveled-up monsters is kind of useless. At the same time, having high-level cards and not having a high-level summoner will also hinder you. It's best to level up both around the same time, with summoners going first as the cards won't be useful otherwise. Having stronger monsters will give you an edge over your opponent and it's hard to beat the level advantage. It's not impossible though with the right strategy, but it's an uphill battle. There are no level caps anymore in battles so the advantage is applied to any league and rank.
