Splinterlands is a pretty complicated game with interesting battles with all the options available. This is a part of the weekly social media challenge for Splinterlands. This week is about a great fight where I won because of Harklaw.
Featured cards
Harklaw is a death splinter that costs 8 mana. It starts off with the shield ability. As it levels up, it gains the immunity ability at level 2 and demoralize at level 3. I have this card at level 3 so it has all of its abilities.
Rule set, Battle and Plan
The ruleset this time is Tis but Scratches and Heavy Metal. This means that only armored monsters can be used and all monsters gain the cripple ability. There are 12 mana available and I am left with the choice of fire, water, death, or dragonsplinter.
Splinter | Mana Cost | Position | Reason |
---|---|---|---|
Thaddius Brood | 4 | Summoner | |
Harklaw | 8 | 1st | |
Total Mana: | 12 |
Thaddius Brood is my summoner due to its -1 health and magic. It also lets me use Harklaw at level 3 due to its summoner level. My Tank is Hawklaw due to the mana cap this fight. I decided to just use it alone because it won't be affected by cripple and my summoner already decreases the magic damage that my opponent can do. I can still lose if my opponent overwhelms me with quantity but I thought this would give me the best chances. I also don't think there are too many low mana monsters available so the chances of that is unlikely. So focusing more on reducing physical damage seems like the key to winning this match based on the ruleset.
Round 1
At first glance, I think that I have the advantage in this match and this match is my win because my opponent can't damage me. My demoralize will decrease the damage from 2 to 1 and with the shield ability on Harklaw, my opponent will do zero damage. So it's just a matter of time for me to kill off my opponent. Even if I miss a lot, any hits that I do will decrease my opponent's health so I will also have an advantage in the fatigue stage of the match.
I won this match a few rounds later as I expected. I did miss like half of my attacks but it worked out in the end.
New rules for the social media challenge
To ensure the long-term sustainability and growth of the Hive ecosystem, we will evaluate the long-term commitment of participants when selecting winners. Specifically, we will review past rewards earned and currently held Hive Power (HP) as part of the selection process.
Participants who demonstrate an investor mindset by holding and growing their HP are more likely to be rewarded. Those who consistently extract all rewards without reinvesting into the ecosystem may not be eligible for prizes.
This rule aims to celebrate and encourage commitment to the Hive blockchain, fostering a strong and engaged community.
In the above weekly social media challenge, they mentioned new rules on people so I thought I would bring it up here. I think it makes sense to encourage people to stay on the Hive blockchain and grow their HP.
Conclusion
The battle this time around went as I expected. With this ruleset and mana cap, I didn't think that there would be many magic monsters used. So using Harklaw that could reduce physical damage and reducing melee damage was the best choice. It gave me as an easy win as my opponent could not deal any damage and I won easily. The speed advantage did make my attacks miss but it doesn't matter when you can't deal any damage.
