Every week there is a Splinterlands challenge to share a rule set using a specific card and on this week's post it is a battle with the Melee Mayhem rule set. I also encourage Splinterlands players to partake in the challenge because you get to try different strategies and earn some crypto in the process.
Rule set, Battle and Plan
The ruleset this time is Melee Mayhem and FabFour. This means that all melee monsters can attack from anywhere and we can only use up to 4 monsters. There is also 30 mana available and I am left with the choice of earth or dragon splinter.
The summoner I chose to use this time is Helios Matriarch. It reduces my enemy's speed by 1 and I can use a gladiator. Its also my highest level death summoner so I can use my cards to their highest level.
Splinter | Mana Cost | Position | Reason |
---|---|---|---|
Helios Matriarch | 6 | Summoner | -1 speed and gladiator |
Pelacor Mercenary | 7 | 1st | Heal and Flying |
Vruz | 2 | 2nd | Marytr |
Quora Towershead | 10 | 3rd | Immunity, Heal and Bloodlust |
Thane Newsong | 5 | 4th | Inspire and Strengthen |
Total Mana: | 30 |
I plan to use Pelacor Mercenary as my first tank for the flying and heal. Then I have Vruz in the 2nd spot for the martyr ability. My third monster is Quora for the duo magic and melee damage with bloodlust, heal, and immunity. My last monster is Thane Newsong for the inspire and strengthen monsters
Round 1
At first glance, I think that the match can go either way. Immortalis reduces my magic damage and the taunt monster reduces my damage. At the same time, if I get hit by affliction, things can get worse fast because of how much I rely on heal.
Round 3
My Quora is up front now and I was able to avoid the affliction. If I don't miss, then I have this match won because I should be able to kill off that monster and I can heal up any damage I take. On the other hand, if that affliction lands because I missed, I will probably lose this match because my Quora won't do much damage against that forcefield ability.
A few rounds later I won the match because I didn't miss the melee attack on the 3rd round.
Conclusion
The battle did go as I expected. Using Quora and taking advantage of the melee mayhem ruleset helped. I am glad that I buffed up the melee damage with Thane because things could have been dangerous otherwise. The only thing that I did not expect was the affliction monster but I was lucky and the single attack that hit Quora did not land that ability. After that, I managed to take out that monster and win the match through a long drawn-out battle using my heal ability to keep Quora alive. Things worked out in this fight so I won.
You can see my entire match here.
What did you think of my match? Was there anything you would have done differently? I think it is quite interesting to see how different players play in a ruleset.
