Happy first Valentine’s Day, Nug. ❤️
It’s a good day to write about the love drug, I think.
A very interesting thing about cuddling with you is the feeling it makes. The special cuddle needs our skin to touch. My favourite right now is when you’re done eating a bottle and are sleepy. I put you up on my shoulder for a burp and you will fall asleep or become very still. Then the back of your head touches my ear.
When this happens I feel very relaxed and happy. It is a strong feeling that happens all at once. I compare it to the kind of relaxed feeling I get when enjoying a cold drink on a hot day, relaxing in the sun, maybe beside a lake. It is like that, but a little different. There’s a big feeling of love and closeness with you as well.
We know why this happens too! Our bodies create a special chemical called oxytocin when we cuddle skin-to-skin. It causes the feeling and helps us bond. It can happen when you hug a friend or even a pet. I think it is extra powerful between parent and child though :)
I am looking forward to many more cuddles, and one day many hugs too!
Love,
Dad
