There’s something about starting the day on the right foot that isn’t talked about enough. I feel that the level of productivity we would have at the end of the day or generally how your day turns out, your mood and all of that, depends to a great degree on how you begin your day.
I had a moment of reflection towards the end of last year where I recalled how productive some of my days were and then I remembered how the other days when I felt like I hadn’t accomplished anything were as well. And I remembered that most of how those days turned out was because of how my mornings began.
So, even before the beginning of this year, I mapped out how I wanted my day to be. Yeah, I gave room for spontaneity and anything unplanned that may happen. But mostly since the year began, my days have been going practically just the way I want it and that’s because I brought back working out daily.
Many people may realize this already but I experienced on a personal level the benefits of starting the day with working out and meditations. It’s not just about keeping fit and having the body you desire, but the mental advantages are out of this world. I remember last year how each day I woke up early in the morning, let’s say 5.30 am, and worked out, it almost always felt like I could do anything I wanted. Take the world by storm and all of that.
The energy just feels right. I spoke to my best friend about it and we drafted out plans. I needed an accountability partner because even the most carefully laid out plans may fall if you don’t have someone you’re accountable to. It helped that she’d also been having the same line of thought and I was so it was easier to bring the plan to fruition.
This year, while I was thinking in the line of active work out, she decided to venture more into yoga. Each day, we document how we go about our morning routine and how amazing we feel afterwards. For me, it is the mental liberation I feel every morning, plus the knowledge that I'm fit and looking good. For her, it’s the general wellness of her body and mind and how flexible she’s gotten.
More than anything, I like the peace I’m beginning to achieve. My life could get chaotic sometimes and more than anything, my mind could be in a frenzy at certain points. Doing this routine every morning places me in an all-day mindful state. My thoughts are more coherent and there’s no clash in the number of things whirling in my head. From school to work, relationships and Hive, there’s this tendency I have to panic because it feels like I’m going through too many things at once.
I won’t say that it’s been an immediate happening and I don’t worry anymore about things, but now there’s more calmness even in times were I’m worried. Maybe it’s because I just chose that this year will be filled with peace for me, but I know it’s also because of my new mindful routine and how much fun I’m having with it. So, I thought to share it with #mindfulmonday today. I wish us more moments of peace and clarity in the coming months.
