Motherhood - the struggle with Post Pregnancy Depression (PPD)

in #hive-1092883 days ago

I remember my mummy being pregnant for my sisters but since I was still in secondary school (boarding) then and quite young I didn't take note of any emotions she must have been going through at the time.

But she is pregnant again so I do hope that this time I will be able to give her all the support she needs and more.

I have come to understand that post pregnancy depression is a thing, and it takes a very hard toll on a lot of mothers especially single mothers. I believe that they are things that we can do for mothers who have just given birth as friends and family.

I know that sometimes they are not obvious so it's hard to detect or some of them prefer to keep it to themselves maybe because they don't want people to know or feel like a burden but new mothers often feel isolated and overwhelmed especially in early weeks of caring for a newborn. Simply checking in can provide comfort. Listening without judgment and validating her feelings helps her feel seen and understood.

Practical support is important. Doing something tangible like bringing a meal or holding the baby while she naps can ease mental load. Small acts relieve daily pressures that become overwhelming. Encouraging her to connect with other mothers can be a lifeline.

Social outings provide much-needed relief from isolation. A walk outing can help a new mother feel connected. Partners play a crucial role and supporting them in understanding postpartum challenges can strengthen support around her.

Advocating for awareness and better postpartum care is key. Encouraging open conversations about postpartum depression and supporting access to mental health resources contribute to long-term change. Small consistent efforts make a world of difference to a new mother struggling in silence.

Like I always say a child's 1 year birthday should be a celebration for the mother who have survived a whole year PPD, sleepless nights and many more

That's very true, they need to also be celebrated from time to time. Thanks for passing by.
