Cassava is a root vegetable which sprouts underground, it is scientifically called ""MANIHUT ESCULENTA
Like potato and yam,it is a tuber crop. It's root has similar shape to sweet potatoes. The cassava leaf is also edible for consumption.
BENEFITS OF CASSAVA
Cassava root is high in vitamin c, which is of utmost importance as it acts as an antioxidant, support collagen production and it enhances immunity. It's also rich in copper a mineral necessary for neurotransmitter synthesis,iron metabolism, energy production etcetera.
SIDE EFFECTS
Cassava can be harmful if consumed raw or if improperly prepared .
Raw Cassava contains chemical called
Cyanogenic glycosides,if eaten raw, this can release cyanide into the body.
Consuming cynide glycosides or eating them in high amounts increase the risk of cynide poisoning.
Cynide poisoning is in line with thyroid and nerve function paralysis, organ damage and can also leads to death.
Cassava can be used or processed for many things, one of which is CASSAVA FLAKES popularly known as "GARRI"
It can also be processed into fufu and also abacha.
Trying to know the process of how it's been done, but the production officers told me that they were done with the the major process of the production. So I'll have to come again earlier than the time came.
