I was in Nelson last month, actually some kilometers more from Nelson in Motueka.
We had some projects down there, and one of them was at the top of Mount Campbell. What I have been doing when I go up the mountain or down for the first time is I record a video of it so going up Mount Campbell, I didn't but told myself I will record a video of the drive when going down.
It turned out we left the mountain top at dark and very foggy.
It was such a beautiful sky when we got to the top, and I decided to get on with the job and take photos later.
In less than an hour, the beautiful weather turned very cold and foggy, and I had to get an extra jacket on.
We ran out of time and had to rush off for a drive down, which is about 50 minutes drive from the mountain.
About 15 minutes into the drive, I missed a turn and headed the wrong way, driving up the mountain track are very narrow, fortunately I got to a spot where I got out the vehicle, used my phone's touch for visibility and managed to make a U-turn.
For some reason I was calm, I guess it's because there are no snakes in New Zealand which is a good thing for me as I have a phobia for snakes.
We had to go through a boom lock about halfway down with a very secure key to access the mountain, I met up with my colleagues there as they waited for me 😃
Mount Campbell is one of the toughest mountains I have driven on in New Zealand 🇳🇿.
