I've been building businesses online for over 20 years now. And when I first got started, I'm pretty sure I was attracted to what everyone else was at first...

"I can make money from home! And never have to get a 9 to 5 ever!"

The attraction of that potential fired me up but I'm sure you will agree, if you have ever tried to build anything online, it does not sustain your journey.

So let's put this into focus right here on the blockchain...

The allure and potential of becoming rich from that 'can't miss' crypto project might get you started. But here's what happens...

Prices go up. And prices go down.

In a business environment, you have wins and you have losses.

It's literally a roller coaster of results that has no guarantee that tomorrow will bring success. Yet, you keep showing up. You continue to put your blood, sweat and tears into what you believe in because you know, the effort you put in now will pay massive dividends down the road.

And here's the secret, not only in developing some crypto stacks...But also in online entrepreneurship.

You must LOVE what you do!

Your passion will be the energy that sustains your journey because I guarantee you...It's not going to be a smooth ride!

When your favorite crypto project seems to be tanking in price and the excitement in a community is fleeting...It's your passion that keeps you showing up!

When the business idea you have been working on for months still isn't ready to launch, and rent is due...Your determination is what matters!

This is what will allow you to keep on...Keeping on!

When I think back to my experience building businesses, I fell in love with my industry. It's the same feeling I have now when it comes to this blockchain and building new businesses on top of it. There is a passion that keeps me showing up, day after day.

The price of Hive, LEO or SPS can go up and down...And sure, I"d love to live off my efforts here on the blockchain. However the big win, I know, will be down the road. And if I stay the course, and put my heart and soul into this stuff...Good things will happen.

Is this scientifically proven? Or just me throwing anecdotal evidence around?

I can guarantee you this...

Things will go great. And things will suck...When you are building an online business.

The price of your favorite token will go up, and it'll go down...When you are trying to build your stacks.

What matters most....Is how much you LOVE this stuff and have a passion for it!

Then, the journey is not only worth it...It's extremely rewarding :)

You have to make a plan, some goals and follow them. Do not change course in the face of difficulties but adapt to them and improve the plan. That is the way, perseverance is the way.

Because...Things will suck along the way lol

You are so right. You need to love what you are doing / your business, otherwise you are setting yourself for a guaranteed failure.

Agreed...The money isn't always guaranteed. So you need to guarantee that your passion will be there.

Every time I have tried to do something for the money it is not sustainable. Doing what you love is true freedom.

Amen to that! The 'money' is never the proper reason because it goes up and down all the time lol

Great post Jon. If you don't love what you do then you are not only wasting your own time but those around you who you are networking with. Besides, if you do not love working online, go get an offline job. There are plenty to go around right now.

Yeah man, this is an adventure for sure...But the right mindset is needed!

Pretty awesome what you have built. Nice work!!

I know when I put in the work on this chain I’m rewarded. It’s nice seeing this!

It's the best place to build for sure...Problem is, people have the attention span of goldfish lol If it's not making them a million bucks overnight they go on to the next thing.

Failing is the easy part. We can do that over and over.

Success is hard, because you have to believe in yourself and what you want to succeed at from point A to point Z. No shortcuts. To do that you HAVE TO LOVE what you are doing.

Learning the hard way sucks, but I get it now; after allllll these years.

lol man it's something we read and 'know' but until we experience it ourselves...oh boy, we keep failing.

Awesome @jongolson very inspiring to see you still have your passion after over 20 years have a blessed and successful one for the future.😎

I discovered HIVE thanks to you, and I love what I do in the community, money is also important, but if you earn money doing something you do not like I think it is not good money earned, you must also enjoy the work you do to have a complete satisfaction.
I congratulate you for your commitment and dedication to your work.

Awesome to have you onboard sir!

And thanks for the kind words and support!

Short-term prices are unpredictable and it's a fool's game to try to predict them. Obviously, if everything looks good and you did your research, just continue on without any issues.

Exactly. I mean, I literally read every white paper of a project I plan to dive into...Not the most exciting thing in the world to do, but I'm much more about the long term vision of the project rather than short term gains.

Well said! We cannot control the results, only our actions.

Yup, same with the markets...Nothing we can do about the price...We just need to take action daily.

Indeed your love is what matters & business is preferable by all means. If there are no losses how'd we enjoy the winnings?

It does make the wins that much sweeter!

Great post Jon.
That is why I keep trying .
I love this stuff. It also takes tenacity which you model very well.

It also helps that I have no Plan B lololol

Loving what you do is so important. If you don't, you won't lasr. Thanks for all you do for us.

Appreciate the comments!

All you say is really true, one must not get so comfortable but one must always prepare the mind for the unforeseen.

Absolutely. Have to think about things long term and not ride every bull and bear. We see it all too often; people quit their jobs during every bull run to make their living off the markets.

That is not the way to do it. Get an income flow from what you are doing that covers your basic expenses. Then you can start to add to it.

Get an income flow from what you are doing that covers your basic expenses.

That reminds me of an old 'entrepreneurial' saying, about living a few years and making sacrifices that most people won't, for living a life down the road that most people can't.

Stack now, reap later!

There is a lot of work involved. Money not guaranteed. You can write a posts, people can make a comment. As I said earlier money is not guaranteed. But I can guarantee this, you always give a reply back. That makes it all worth while !

I think it's the least we can do...If people take the time to come to our content and engage with us, the least we can do is acknowledge it :)

There's a saying, I don't remember where I heard

You must love what you to do what you love

I love writing consistently. It's a fun training exercise. The profit slowly, but surely, started coming gradually. There really isn't a magic (Get rich quick) solution in Crypto, just like there isn't anywhere really, unless you successfully rob a bank lol!

I got to agree with "love what you do". This is true because things becomes easier this way. If it becomes routine and chore. It gets difficult then no matter what is our dream. It just becomes harder and even more difficult to chase it. Sometimes not focusing on the end result and just enjoying the process is way better.

The process...Is so important! The end goals may never be reached, so it's so important for us to enjoy this stuff...Every day!

I don't care where the prices are. I love this because I am doing better here by just showing up than I ever did in anything else before this. I love not having to beg, plead and do backflips to get people to buy stuff or watch a video. When Hive is up that's great but when it is down I can get more for my fiat investment. I see it as a win win no matter what.

It really is a much better experience for online entrepreneurs. But I'm pretty biased LOL

It truly is and I am biased as well. Have a great day! 😀

You say that your passion is what drives you and that's great. However, I starting to believe that my passion has died and I sometimes feel like I no longer want an online business and I'm just going through the motions, I'm still determined though to earn a passive income and being here on hive is working but I think I lost the passion because it seems to feel like a lot of work.
I believe that after so much failure in affiliate marketing in so manny pass years has dampened my drive and I no longer have the passion to develop as I did in the past. Now I'm just trying to keep up and develop a crypto portfolio that will someday give me enough to withdraw a little every now & then while it's still growing.

Up or down doesn't matter to me right now, I learned that from you. I only look at price when I'm buying because I want to get the cheapest price I can so it will be a real increase later on. I'm just building & holding for the future.

Yep, this reminds me of those early days of podcasting. Back in 2005 it wasn't an industry. All these years later podcasting is a billion dollar industry. I have loved podcasting all this time and nothing would have stopped me from pursuing it personally and professionally.

Now that I am on Hive it's easy to look at all the content I have created on social media platforms like Twitter 46,000+ tweets which netted me zero rewards and compare it to what I am experiencing with dApps like D.Buzz. I know over time the end results will eventually be huge. Knowing this is a long-tail game makes all the difference. I'm building now for the future. And I have to say the future looks mighty bright. 😎

Dbuzz...Such an awesome idea, hope to see it develop more.

Yeah, I remember doing my first podcast around those years lol Didn't stick with it, and now I'm paying for it.

Anytime is a good time to podcast.

At this point, the core of our Hive community is super strong.

After all of the endless shit we've been through on the journey from Steem to Hive, is there anyone still here that genuinely hates what they're doing?

Even the. whingers still show up every day because there is nothing else like us out there and nothing else on the horizon.

Ah Hive <3

PS. Just a shoutout that I'm still loving HivePay SWAP.

I use it every week and it's definitely the best way to deposit HIVE into Hive-Engine.

Keep building, you're one of our best!

Awesome to hear it man. Yeah I use it almost daily too, and it's been working great! Glad to hear you are enjoying it still!

Hahaha, you took the words out of my mouth. In 2018, steem tanked to like 11 cents and so Many of my Comrades left the chain. It was pure love, excitement and believe that kept me grinding and building, sometimes we just need to have that blind faith, jumping ships makes it difficult for one to build while learning in the process. High prices wouldn't make one rich, commitments and building will.

Thanks for the nuggets

Posted Using LeoFinance Beta

Oh man, that's the truth...Literally went to levels we haven never seen and most just jumped ship.

That's why you have to love this stuff and believe in the bigger picture...For times just like that lol

Hive repaid loyalty and is still repaying loyalty. Most of the people who are consistent here are the one's who saw 11 cent and 3.4$. It's been a massive ride.

Oh man, has it ever lol

I've been following steem/hive since 2017 through thick and thin. I've ridden the wave up and down. People will sometimes complain about HIVE being less than a dollar, but after months and months of 0.10 - 0.20 HIVE, seeing it over $1.00 is like a dream. Experiencing it go up to over $3.00 made me wonder about the legends of old... of $10 or even $100. I still think these sorts of numbers are possible.

If cryptos devalue (which may happen in an extreme USD inflationary situation as people cash out to make up for rising costs) we have to remember that every price move is an opportunity. Imagine stocking up on HIVE back when it was $0.12? That same HIVE is now valued about $1.20. Nobody should be unhappy about something valuable being discounted, there's a lot more HIVE you DON'T own than you do own.

We may look back at HIVE under a dollar and laugh as every little gain or loss seemed like a big deal. All those 2 cent comments are suddenly worth $2.00. Those posts that earned us a few dollars now, will be worth THOUSANDS someday.

It all comes down to the active or passive earning of crypto rather than buying/selling. And enjoying the EARNING experience. If that is the attitude, no price move will discourage you!

That's a brilliant point and something I think about all the time...

Let's say my post earned my 10 bucks in upvotes right now...What is that worth when Hive goes to 5 bucks etc? That's why I scream how important it is for people to show up now, and accumulate now.

Now is the time to accumulate! What's tricky for me is not to get too excited when HIVE goes up 120% and sell too early (before 10000%), when I should follow my own advice and keep on INVESTING and EARNING.
