Hey everyone! Can not believe how fast this year seemed to go. In just 2 more days it will be 2023. I know it is just another day, and business as usual. But what a great excuse to reset everything, and start from scratch. My garden project isn't much of a garden at the moment. More like prep work getting ready for a slightly bigger, and extremely better garden for the new year.
Currently the California is experiencing an Atmospheric River, and it has been raining the last few days, with even more expected for the remaining of the week. As you can see it is turning everything nice, and green.
But for the most part is about done, and is being cut back, and thrown in the compost.
Above is the other Squash that started growing from the compost I added for the Yellow watermelon. Crazy that this one is still thriving after the Yellow Watermelon died.
Although the fruit is not fairing to well, the foliage is as green as a neon sign. This does have me hoping that perhaps if I let it grow, just maybe it will survive, and start to grow again come Spring. I would bet 5 Hive it does, anyone want to take me up on it for fun(5 Hive)?
Here are the two Glass Corn, that have been in the seedling stage since October. If these somehow do make it, and start to grow, I will no doubt have to transplant them. I want the row of corn elsewhere, further out then they where last year.
Another thing I am prepping for the upcoming garden is to plant more Marigolds.
I have planted some here, and there the past month. I am lucky to have a few pop up, but the real sowing will start maybe after February.
I will bury these Garlic Bulbs sometime in January. These where gifted to me from fellow Hiver @anewyorkminute79. It is cool to think these where once underground in New York! Thanks again bro, and I will put some extra love into these.
Here are both of the compost piles still cooking. I have decided not to worry about the gnats since I will be using this outside. And as far as comparing the two. I do not notice much of a difference. So if you want a compost, and want to go the cheap route, a simple garbage bin, with some holes drilled into it will do you just as good as one that will cost you 3-4x the price.
So there you have it. Basically something to keep me busy, and to satisfy my garden itch. I have no doubt that this upcoming garden will be better then the last. I also will grow more from seed, and not be growing some random squash I find in the compost. I will get that Yellow Watermelon, and hopefully some Pumpkins in time for Halloween. You can bet I will have more Glass Corn. After all that stuff makes great for click bait. For now hopefully this rain keeps up, and gives us the much needed water this area needs.
