Joonto's Top 5 Music Picks: Week #2 - 2022

in #hive-1938163 years ago

Music is by far my favourite media. That's why I'm happy to invite you to the second episode of my new series about the top 5 music picks of the week, according to my weird taste! My taste is very wide and I think good. Expect a nice mix of classic and new hits, spiced up with less-known tracks.

ZSK - Ich Habe Besseres Zu Tun

Do you know what was my favourite song during the COVID-19 saga? It was this German hilarious song about Germany's doctor, Christian Drosten. The virologist led Germans to deal with the pandemic crisis by translating the complex world of virology into laymen's terms. He got so popular that a like-wise popular (in Germany) punk band dedicated a song to Drosten. In this song, Drosten says that he has better things to do (Ich habe Besseres zu tun) than watching Lord of the Rings with his wife. He's busy neutralizing Covid virions with his laser sight and advising Angela Merkel. Very hilarious and catchy song, even if you don't speak German!

Sea Power - Red Rock Riviera

This is a long, almost all instrumental song depicting the beautiful melancholy of the Riviera. The intro seems like a military anthem for a fallen soldier, then it turns into a dream-like journey across a surreal Riviera, maybe where it is possible to walk on the water or even underwater while still breathing normally. It is perfect for approaching summer or even better to be played when summer is closing.

Susanne Sundfør - Accelerate

I love those musicians who craft their own music all on their own. Susanne Sundfør is one of them, hence my undying respect for her. The Norwegian is a 360º musician. She sings and writes her own music and lyrics and she also produces most of her tracks on her own. Her music is simply majestic. I consider her a modern, Viking version of Tomaso Albinoni. Like the Venetian composer, she makes heavy use of organs, my favourite instrument of all!

Metallica – For Whom The Bell Tolls

I already have an idea for whom the bell tolls, but I let you imagine... To me, this song evokes wide plains, covered by thousands of soldiers fighting for that hill men would kill. Why? They do not know... If you believe that hill has all of this value, then go and fight, but... remember to take a look to the sky just before you die...

Nirvana – About A Girl

Lately, there is a girl who hangs me out to dry, while she hangs in my head non-stop. But this girl is more an ideal than a real person in my life. She lives far from Lisbon and I don't think (and honestly I hope not) she will ever move here. It's a big paradox. I like her a lot, but I don't want her around. Yeah, I'm too scared. I like her too much. I do...
