Epic Soulbound Reward Cards are Dark Horse.

It is another season-ending one in which I did not make it to diamond 3. For a long time, I have been able to make it to the diamond league at least two to three days before the season's end, or even on the final day. Unfortunately, I could not do so this time.

I lost a lot of games near the end of the season. I played against a lot of max level summoners and tactically sound competitors in the game, and I sometimes lost because I was not lucky enough.

Playing In Wild Is Not Easy

There is a common misconception that playing in the wild is easier, but this is not the case. I understand that the Modern format only allows new cards, and some players there prefer to play against newer cards, but in wild, all generations of cards are permitted, including new ones.

I have played against the summoners that are most common in modern, but I imagine that anyone with an active modern deck will prefer to play in modern because it is more profitable and the SPS reward is good.

However, because newer cards are more expensive and have more value, you would expect them to earn more for that value. Personally, I believe the disparity in format (modern vs. wild) is one of the worst decisions the Splinterlands team has ever made, because the consequences far outweigh the benefit of why that decision was made in the first place, but that is a topic for another day.

My point is that wild is not as easy as people think. For example, Mylor, The Kitty, and numerous other summoners remain dangerous. I understand that most newer summoner sets now come with four abilities, and I respect that they are more powerful, but Wild is not a pushover, and I sometimes need to use the best strategies in my arsenal to win some games.

Stats

My win rate dropped, and while it was not much, it was noticeable given how poorly I performed near the end of last season.

I earned approximately 37k glints, which was doubled. I stuck to my strategy of not buying any legendary cards in the draw because they are not as powerful as a regular legendary card and cost 10k more than the previous set of soulbound reward cards.

Epic Cards

This time, I purchased three epic cards and was very disappointed. The Night reaper card has not really fit into any of my strategies; I have not used it, and I believe it is an overrated card; I consider it a squad card because it is the type of card I will only use once a month. I received the shock trooper, which is probably the most common EPIC reward card.

I was not particularly enthused or excited because, even after receiving one more card to level it up to level 2, it still did not add another ability or magic attack. In this case, the Olivia should be the most valuable card available, but I only have one BCX; I need three cards to raise it to level two so that it can gain the mimic ability.

I believe the mimic ability is why it is so scarce, but at one BCX, the card is nearly as useless, unless combined with a Matyr card.

I also purchased a large number of common cards; I did not take any pictures, but there is nothing exciting about common cards. Yes, they help you win, but until you get them to level 6 or 10, they are ordinary. However, I am still happy to buy them with my Glints, and I will probably only talk about them when I notice an exciting ability or when they reach staggering levels.

Gladius Cards

I also purchased some merits and used them to buy some Gladius cards, and after a long time, I received a legendary Gladius card. This card is important to me because it represents the water element and is magical. I like the addition of magic cards to my water deck, and I tested this card today, and the blast ability is useful.

Other cards were ordinary and nothing serious, but as we all know, opening gladius cases is often hit or miss unless you are extremely fortunate. However, I got lucky. I have never received a GFL before, and perhaps I will someday, but any card that is extremely useful to me is worth celebrating.

Wild Pass

I got a wild pass to play in the format. Again, this is not what I want, but it is either this or continue to let my cards depreciate. I can not compete in modern because it is slightly better (in terms of SPS), so it makes sense to keep using my cards to compete.

They are down 90% from the price I paid for the majority of them, and it makes sense to wait for the market to recover before deciding what to do with these cards. For the time being, I am using them, and playing Splinterlands is enjoyable.

Sorry to hear last season was worse than before and rewards didn't match expectations either. Maybe the new chests for advancing to higher tiers will compensate to some degree and this season will be a little better.

I think I have one same old problem: my cards aren't just strong enough. I need luck too, but sometimes the quality of deck mostly guarantees better luck. I hope to be better though this season

And I hope those prices do recover because we've all lost quite a bit on these cards we invested in! Olivia is the best one of the new epics I think, now I just need to be able to level her up, it' snot easy to pull her cards sadly! Congratulations on the legendary card, it's really hard to get any of those to level 2, they are just so few are far between!

It'll be a delight to get the Olivia to level 2, I pretty much reckon that I'll be destroying a lot of opponent with it and earning some SPS with it.
I do hope the prices recover, but I really doubt it. I own a lot of older cards and I don't know if they'll ever have the value they used to have in the past, so I might just lose anyways

That's for sure, Olivia at 2 will be awesome. Like getting Quora to level 3! They should do something for the underpowered old cards, add a new generation power to them to keep them competitive. Kitty doesn't need any help though! lol

A lot of the Alpha and Beta cards just aren't as powerful, so they've lost a lot of value. In their attempts to make the game more interesting and challenging they've destroyed much of the value that the older players had in their collections. It really sucks how they did things. I'm still worried if they'll survive long term

That's why I think that the decisions to ban the older cards from modern was one of the biggest mistake the splinterlands team have made and it's problematic because you can own a card and be certain you'll play long-term without them losing value.
Sentiments apart, many people will sell when the card value begin to go up, I'm sure I will.

Wow, the Epic Reward cards look pretty strong. I was focusing on Rare and Common cards to try to max them out as fast as I can, I will see if I need to reconsider that by reviewing the stats. Thanks for highlighting this.

I think you should consider getting epic cards as they'll make your deck stronger. Although it's also good to consider common card and maxing them out as well. But I couldn't pass the quality cards in the epic section

The epic cards are useful, but I do agree that the asset price drop does suck. I do think that Night Reaper isn't as bad as you think it is. It can attack the backline from the first spot if there is a flying monster back there. I find that it can be quite useful but it's situational.

I really don't like situationally good cards. I want cards I can bank on, to do some specific tasks. However I will give it the benefit of a doubt and incorporate more of it into most of my games and see how it actually goes.
