I Built Myself A House

in #hive-1679222 years ago

After the 2018 bear market, I was lost because I was unprepared, it was my first bear market ever and no one had told me earlier that there was something like the bear market, due to this I couldn't really prepare for it and hence I was caught napping. This was the period I went to see my mum in my family home.

I was dumbfounded at the dilapidated structure of the house, it was leaking and I spent about $100 once a year to patch the leaking roof of the house. However, I couldn't afford to patch it anymore because my day job wasn't paying much and I just allowed the house to dilapidate further.

So when I traveled, my mum and grandmother were homeless, they lived in that house and since the cost of the repair was becoming too much, they had to leave the building while sharing a place with other family members in other places.

Building a house was very expensive and I couldn't afford it at that particular time, but after a little boom with crypto in 2020, I decided to begin the construction of a new house, I already have some little savings from engaging in day trading, so I began with building the house in late 2020, it was tough for me, but this was probably an obligation.

Exactly yesterday, I finished the house, although it's subject to painting and I'll still need to open up a borehole which could cost close to $600. I still would need to wire the house and connect it for electricity, which could still cost like $300, and the painting would cost about 300$ as well.

Clearing the landed area and fencing might take like 700$ which means I'll still need about $1900 to put up the house to standard, but these things except for pipe-borne water are still secondary.

Overall I spent about $8000, (it's a three bedroom bungalow) to get the house to this standard, even if I am broke at the moment, at least my mum and grandmother wouldn't be homeless anymore.

My father didn't build a house, and neither did my grandfather, it's a proud feat for me. To be honest, it's quite a modest house and even when I still live in Lagos, my dream is to also own a landed property in Lagos one day.

In all honestly, building a house like this would be profitable if I erected it in a place like Lagos, Nigeria where I currently reside.

This is because I can't rent or lease this one, but in Lagos, everything goes. even if I don't, rent or lease any landed property owned in Lagos, the upside is that it appreciates massively.

This is because Lagos is crowded, with fewer houses, and more people to accommodate. So house appreciation in Lagos is inevitable due to the commercialization, plenty of job opportunities, and industries.

I'm happy to gave gotten to this stage where the house is habitable and I'm happy to do this without tampering with my major Hive holding. It's the bear market now and I'm glad I could accomplish something when the bull market was in session.

This is the first time I'm spending my crypto money on anything substantial and I'm glad it's turned out well. I'll still be needing like $2000 to get everything done, but I'm glad the house is currently habitable. Special thanks to people like @selfhelpfortrolls, @ericvancewalton, and Kbanti, they helped me bring this into inception.

This is amazing, Congratulations my dear. I think it's high time I set a goal for my self and start working towards achieving them. You inspire me now🥰🥰🥰

Inspiring story. This is pretty amazing. Your family must be proud of you.

I bough a house for very little money, back in September 2018, in Portugal. This took place a year and some months after I got into crypto.

I then renovated it and had way higher costs than expected, in the first and second quarter of 2019 ( when crypto was still waiting to go up again ). I spent a lot of my coins on that.

Last October I sold that same house for no profit and reinvested in crypto ( when BTC was at about 55k ). I did not sell in November ( as I had no idea 69k would be the peak of the bull ). Now I don't own a house and my crypto money is worth way less. I don't feel poor though and Hive and all the friends I have on here are what gives my crypto experience the most value.

We will get through this bear. It's just a matter of time.

Thanks for this inspiring post ;<)

I'm sorry for this, sometimes our choices and decisions might not be the right one in short run, but it might, in the long run, I'm hoping you can recover everything you've lost, since you're not selling yet. You might just hold out to see if the market can recover.
Thank, I believe it's a feat I'm proud to achieve.

That is an amazing feat, @josediccus! Congratulations, I am very proud of you for accomplishing this. It looks nice and solid. Isn't it amazing to do something this substantial with the help of crypto?

Thanks a million for everything, it's nice to have done this, I'm grateful for every decision that I've had to make to get a chunk of the money to build this. It's possible to achieve a lot with Crypto. For me, it's been life-changing

I was happy to help. There's nothing better than seeing other people succeed. Do you own the land you built on?

Crypto has been life-changing for me too. The difficult part here in America is keeping what you've earned, the taxes really eat up the profits. If we have faith and are patient through this bear cycle the good fortune will continue. I know you learned a lot during the last bear cycle and will apply the wisdom to this one.

Best of luck getting all the work wrapped up with the house. Is your next goal to build a second home in Lagos to rent out for passive income? If so, what is your timeline?

Do you own the land you built on?

My father owned the land, he died like 8 years ago, so I automatically inherited the land.

for me too. The difficult part here in America is keeping what you've earned, the taxes really eat up the profit

Here, there's no proposition for taxation of crypto. The government outrightly banned people from trading it through the commercial banks. But we find our ways to actually trade through P2P

Is your next goal to build a second home in Lagos to rent out for passive income? If so, what is your timeline?

Getting a house built in Lagos with buying the land might cost close to $30,000, I don't think I'll have such a figure to spare in years to come. But that's my ultimate goal. It's lucrative to own a house Lagos. Renting for passive income is so juicy. It's difficult to get these things done but it's not impossible.

Posted Using LeoFinance Beta

That was nice that you inherited the land.

I heard that Nigeria banned crypto. It's too bad, many government officials don't really understand that crypto can't really be banned. I'm glad you're using P2P as a workaround. I expect the US to start heavily regulating stable coins at some point in the near future.

That $30k will be very doable for you if you keep blogging/stacking through to the next bull cycle. It'll be a great goal to work towards.

Congratulations boss, I hope you complete the project very soon.

Thanks a lot, I hope so too

I am supper proud of you bro, this is evident what we can get out of crypto, most with 8 hours a day job don't even have much left over to save let alone build a house.

Am sure you will bring the house in full completion soon, hopefully the next bull run.

Great stuff bro and congrats!

Posted Using LeoFinance Beta

Thanks a lot bro, it took two years of planning and work. I think think I'll finish it, it literally left me peniless, but I'm glad it's almost done and the bear market didn't hit me before I could finish it.

Posted using LeoFinance Mobile

Building a house is not child's play I can imagine the effort, money and time you put into this.

Am glad you didn't have to deep into your Hive stake for this project

Posted using LeoFinance Mobile

Dipping into my Hive stake wasn't really an option, I didn't think I'll do that. I'm glad I could scrub and scrub and patch out funds for this one without going into my Hive stake.

Woah.. that's a lot of money spent on the project. I can imagine how much more will still be spent on fencing, wiring and drilling a borehole.

I wish you more success in the future.

Right now I'm currently working on getting my personal apartment (a rented one) and the cost of starting from the beginning is really scary but I'm saving towards it and taking steps already as apartments n Lagos are really expensive especially if you need a standard one.

The money I've budgeted it's in no way close to the amount of money you've spent so far but one thing I realise is owning your own building is always better than renting one, though we all have to start from somewhere.

If only the apartment was in Lagos, it would have been much more profitable since the value of such things appreciate in the long run. Anyway, regardless of the location, it's still your house and I congratulate you.

Don't give it up, it takes time to achieve anything. I've been on that project for like three years now, it's taken a lot of hustle to get it done and here we are. I'm not in a rush to finish it. Infact, I feel I'll take my time because I'm very patient. Do what you have to do and keep believing even in the face of doubt.

Yes, that's right. Patience is a very important key to achieving any goal.

Yes, I'm working on my personal project already and I'm grinding daily until I achieve it. Though I made some mistakes, one thing I realised in the long run is that those mistakes actually allowed me grow to see where it wouldn't work and I'm grateful for them.

Thanks for the encouragement. See you on top!

Despite all odds, you've become a trailblazer and set the bar high for yourself and those who come after you. I'm proud that you've been able to do this for yourself and your parents (mum and grandma).
The strength that you need to succumb through the hurdles of life even at this stage that you need it more would find you and not depart from you.

Keep being the inspiration that you are @josediccus...
