It's the end of the splinterlands' season under the new ECR system and I must say that it's been refreshing to be able to manage one's ECR properly. Managing one's ECR in the old system was a hustle.
Because the ECR drain percentage wasn't consistent, it became very difficult to place a certain figure on the recharge or use rate, and the more you played, the higher it depletes.
It wasn't really calculable and a player like me suffered immensely. This system is different. It deals in whole numbers and anybody can easily use it. You just know you have 50 battles and when it depletes you'll need 50 hours to get it recharged or just buy some DEC to keep playing.
Simplicity is bliss
The simplicity of the ECR system is such a great thing and the best aspect was that I found a workable strategy to maintain mine. Keeping it up at 30/50 even in worse-case scenarios where I go on a losing streak. I didn't know what to expect of the new season, but just like I predicted.
I've been losing a lot of games and it's been hitting me hard, but I know that before the 5 or 6th day of the season, I'll have been settled and back to managing my ECR better. So for the first time ever, I managed to get 29 Gold Chests and I averaged 9 silver daily focus chests per day after the new ECR system was set in place. In the last two days of the season.
I made three gold chests each in my daily focus, and in one of those chests, I got 82.5 SPS and with the current SPS price, it was worth around $2.4 (my highest ever SPS haul since I started playing splinterlands).
More Staking, More Accumulation
Of course, I wasn't planning to sell it. The plan is to stake it and staking means more GLS tokens in the process and more SPS as well, I've never sold any SPS since I started buying CL packs, and I've been accumulating and getting staking returns, just small hauls of SPS returns, but I'm happy to keep staking it as it comes.
Of course, SPS price will eventually go up when the market rallies, but for now, the numbers are still small, and happy to stake the little I get from daily wins and the season's reward.
So I got 29 chests for the end of the season and they were decent, and I'll tell you about it shortly. However, I could have gone for the 30th chest within five hours of the ending of the season, but I didn't want to risk it.
Quality In Depth Quantity
There are far hungrier and more desperate players within 12 hours of the ending of any splinterlands season. Mostly these players come at you with everything they've got and how they conjure and grind their wins leaves you shocked and beaten.
The lineups are expensive, they pump the money into their summoners, then outplay and bully you, making you wonder where they have been all season.
I already knew the modus operandi of players that wait till the end of the season to earn their own chest and since I don't have the money and deck depth to play these guys, I decided not to gamble or mess up my ECR.
It's probably one of those strategies I've concocted to maintain my ECR.
I mainly change my daily focus, if I knew the one I got would be too tough for me, I mostly avoid some playing time so as not to go on losing streaks. Through last season, my highest losing streak was about 6 games. Streaks like that are a dent to one's ECR.
So not going for a 30th chest meant that I was avoiding that losing streak and on the flip side, I'm happy I managed my ECR better, rather than going for that 30th chest.
Although buying some ECR is also on the table, but I want to ensure that I can manage my playtime, at least for now, I did that excellently well last season, but I've begun very poorly this season and I hope this would correct along the way.
Back to the 29 chests, I got two epic and two rare cards, and some other usable soulbound cards
I keep getting the swamp spitter a whole lot these days and I'm thinking that I might eventually upgrade it to level 4 soonest. I already have a level-3-gold SWAMP SPITTER. I didn't get any legendary though and that was a huge bummer.
But in the highlight of the season, I got a level 3 gold rare card which had a decent 500 CP. Even if I didn't get any legendary.
I had a couple of SPS and potions but the highlight of the reward was; GETTING TWO CHAOS LEGION PACK. I had to type that in the capital because it's the first time it's happened and after my bad luck of opening packs, I've decided to hodl.
Getting Packs Are A Delight
This makes it 3 packs in my possession already, and I'm hoping never to be tempted to open them. It's been a great season indeed. I saw someone who earned 82 diamond chests, it goes to show you the depth of "skin-in-the-game" some players have on splinterlands.
While that level of depth is just a pipe dream for me at the moment, I hope to keep building. Hopefully, this season will be better than the last.
