Everyday, we see lots of beautiful things when we are out and about. It is really hard not to even look at those beautiful stuff displayed in shops. Who doesn't want to have good things by the way?. This question is what leads to impulse buying. The urge to buy on an impulse for me is usually 100%. It takes a whole lot of self-control to take your eyes and mind off buying at an impulse.
if you can manage and control your urge, then you are a successful financial manager.
So many people are prone to impulse buying thus leading them to financial wreck. As someone who gets an income no matter how little, it is very necessary to ensure that you don't let your emotions rule your sense of reasoning when it comes to how you spend.
I know someone will say that the country is hard and if you can, just spoil yourself a little. In fact, enjoy yourself because problems will not end.
It is the above statement that has led a lot of people into debt because they keep enjoying themselves without thinking of the future and what they should do to secure it. This set of people are only focused on the present and that is not a wise move to make.
There are so many ways to ensure and take charge of your spending habit and a few are:
- Spend with the cash you have. I know the world is going cashless. But you will agree with me that it is the same cashless policy thing that makes you want to buy and buy without self-control. If you discipline yourself to spend just the physical cash you have, it will limit your spendings and ensure that you don't spend so much on unnecessary things.
- Using your credit card is not a great way to curb impulse buying. Since the credit card is convenient for all, that's how conveniently it leads you to keep spending your money. The moment you decide to spend your physical cash and not be tempted to use your credit card afterwards, then you have successfully saved yourself some good amount of money.
- Resist the urge to shop on sales or promo. Every now and then, we see so many shops putting items up for clearance sales. What we don't know is that the moment we become addicted to buying stuff on clearance sales, we begin to spend more money than the usual. This is so because during clearance sales, we tend to buy a whole lot. We think it is cheap, so therefore we want to use the opportunity to stock up.
Clearance sales are like putting honey into our mouth and of course you cannot spit out something that is sweet. This leads to impulse buying and making you spend more than expected. If you can control yourself and resist that urge of buying only when there is a clearance sale, it will really help you to save up your money rather than spending more money.
- Spend on a budget. For me, I think everyone needs to understand that having a budget and spending on that budget is a great way to save up money and avoid going into unnecessary debt. For instance, if you make up your mind to spend a particular sum of money, it is important that you stick to it. This will help you manage what you have and not end up spending on frivolous things.
Conclusion
Before you buy that thing that you are seeing, ask yourself if it is what you need at that moment. This is a wonderful way to ensure that you don't end up throwing away money over what is not important for you to use. Also, do not rush to buy anything immediately you see the price. Try and bargain to see if you can cut down on the price. This helps you to save some amount of money.
Impulse buying is a killer and can wreck you before you know it. Understand this, work on yourself and have self-control over your expenses.
